The cast of Glee had such a good time on set one day that they wound up inspiring an episode of the hit television series.
During an episode of their And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast, Kevin McHale and Jenna Uskhowitz explained how a sake-infused lunch they had turned into a dance party.
The celebrations laid the groundwork for an episode called “Blame It on the Alcohol” in the show’s second season. They broke down the party and revealed how much trouble they got in despite providing inspiration to the writers.

“We got drunk on set y’all,” Kevin admitted during a new episode of the podcast.
Jenna provided more details about their afternoon: “We got caught having a dance party at base camp — where our trailers are — after going to lunch and having a little bit of some substances. And by substances I mean sake.”
While they opted out of naming and shaming, the pair said that one of their castmates was a “ringleader.” They “started pushing us all to drunk.
“And we’re like ‘I don’t know if we should.’ Some of us partook more than others,” Kevin recalled. The event spiraled from there as more people got involved.
Jenna explained, saying, “Then the producers came down and they partook in our dance party.” They “went back and snitched on us, and we got in trouble. And they wrote an episode about it.”
The duo added that some of their castmates took to drawing on the walls of their trailers during the party. They also added that they personally did not get too drunk.
Interestingly, the episode pulled a good deal from their personal experiences.
“There were a lot of our ‘isms’ in this entire thing. Where Santana [Naya Rivera] mouths ‘Kiss me’ … She’s sort of making fun of herself,” Kevin explained. “We’re making fun of each other in all of this.”
He continued, saying that they were adding to their characters traits from personal experiences. “It was very much just like what Kevin did. I definitely put on some of the girls’ clothing and just [went] for it.”
Despite getting in trouble, it sounds like everyone had a great time with the episode. “It felt like a party. It really did,” Jenna admitted.
During a conversation with co-star Ashley Fink in another episode, they also explained that the spin the bottle scene in the episode was something that they did in real life, too.
“We played spin the bottle so often. It was insane,” Kevin said, adding that they played it “gender blind.” He added “We loved each other so much. It’s like, ‘Oh, our friends are so hot.’”
“Clothing was always optional,” Ashley added about their time together.
Jenna and Kevin have spilled the tea about some other big things during their podcast. For instance, they revealed what it was really like working with Britney Spears on an episode. Kevin also recalled an “intervention” that Naya and Jenna staged for him.
