Tish Cyrus Details How She ‘Numbed’ The ‘Pain’ Of Billy Ray Cyrus Divorce: ‘I Was Just Trying To Survive’

Tish Cyrus was really struggling for a few years.

As Perezcious readers may know, the podcast host lost her 85-year-old mother, Loretta Finley, in 2020. She was 85. That same year, her marriage to Billy Ray Cyrus started to crumble. And by April 2022, she had enough. She filed for divorce after 29 years of marriage. Tish experienced a lot of changes in a short amount of time, so she turned to weed to forget all her problems. She told Tay Lautner on her The Squeeze podcast on Wednesday:

“I’ve been very open that I was a major weed smoker. I’ve always had a little bit of anxiety. I do think at that time, that was almost like medicine for me — because I’m a huge believer in plant medicine — and I think that I probably during the time I lost my mom and my marriage fell apart, that was like self-medicating in some ways, and I didn’t even realize that I was doing it for that reason.”

Tish believes that “it kinda numbed all that pain.” However, when she decided to stop smoking, it all came rushing back. Tish said she “just in full-on anxiety to the point, [of] like, not functioning,” adding:

“And I did not know what was happening.”

Aww! No! Tish shared that she leaned on weed during the “freaking rough” year of the breakup and death of her mom – two of the “most probably tragic things” in her life.

“I did not, like, process or even stop to really think.”

How heartbreaking…

Tish went on to say that she and her children were “very close” to her mother, noting that she lived with them while Miley filmed Hannah Montana:

“Once that was all over, we had got her a little house right beside ours. She was just a massive part of our lives.”

The mom shared that Loretta “and Miley were very close,” adding:

“She’d go to the set with Miley and just my kids just worshiped her … when she passed, not long after that, my marriage started falling apart.”

It was a lot for one person to deal with. However, therapy changed everything for Tish. It got her through the rough patch in her life:

“When I started therapy, and I really started talking about my life and moving out here and my kids in the business and, what my life had been, they were like, ‘Wow.’ ”

Her “beautiful relationship” with her husband, Dominic Purcell, also helped a lot. Tish gushed about how their romance “was so safe,” and there was “just no drama.” Ummm, is she forgetting she ignited a family feud because she stole her youngest daughter Noah Cyrus’s much-older boyfriend? That doesn’t sound like a “no drama” relationship to us! But as usual, Tish doesn’t acknowledge all that! She continued to say instead:

“I think it gave me this place to stand still and, like, feel all these feelings.”

Tish pointed out that “there was no less suffering for me,” saying:

“I’m sure anyone that has experienced anxiety at that level, it is horrible. Absolutely horrible, and it lasted a long time. And I just now am really learning how to deal with it, and I’m so much better. Like, I was not functioning for that year — I was just trying to survive.”

Thankfully, Tish got through it! And she seems stronger on the other side of it! Good for her! Watch Tish’s candid interview about her divorce and more (below):
