When Joe Biden was elected president in 2020, it was widely assumed that he would not seek a second term in office.

Biden is 79-years-old, after all, and he was prone to gaffes and public moments of awkwardness even in his younger years.

Though Biden never explicitly stated this intention, the belief among Dems was that he would anoint VP Kamala Harris as his successor before the 2024 election season.

But as a new poll reveals, voters are not very enthusiastic about the possibility of Biden or Harris as their candidate in ’24.

Data company Premise announced the results of their extensive polling this week, and it seems that 61% of respondents said they would prefer a new president.

Just 38% said they’d welcome another four years of Biden.

That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement, but despite the fact that he would be 82 years old on inauguration day, Joe remains the top choice among likely Democratic candidates.

Harris polled at 21%, which means she’s the second choice among Dems behind Biden.

But those numbers are still less than encouraging, and since Biden is planning to run for office again in ’24, Harris likely won’t be in a position to seek the nomination for herself.

“She is going to be my running mate …. I think she’s doing a good job,” Biden said during a press conference earlier this year.

Making matters worse is the fact that Donald Trump is polling surprisingly well for a man who’s currently the subject of two criminal investigations.

When faced with the question, “In a general election race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump who would you prefer?” 50% or respondents chose Trump.

That puts the former president in a neck-and-neck race with Biden, who also received 50% of the vote.

On the Dem side, Hillary Clinton polled just behind Harris, receiving 19% of the vote.

However, the former secretary of state remarked in a recent interview that running in ’24 is “out of the question.”

“First of all, I expect Biden to run,” Clinton told the Financial Times.

“He certainly intends to run. It would be very disruptive to challenge that.”

Again, not exactly a ringing endorsement for Joe!

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and California governor Gavin Newsom tied for a distant fourth behind Clinton, with each potential candidate receiving 9% of the vote.

Of course, all of these possibilities will likely be rendered moot by President Biden’s desire to seek a second term in the White House.

Asked in a recent interview if he intends to run again, Biden answered, “Yes,” before adding as a caveat:

“I’m a great respecter of fate. Fate has intervened in my life many, many times. If I’m in the health I’m in now, in good health, then in fact I would run again.”

So whether he faces off against Trump again or goes toe-to-toe with a new challenger, such as Florida governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, you can expect to see Joe Biden’s name on your ballot again in 2024.

And the controversial incumbent will likely be in for the fight of his political life.
