By now, you probably know the basics.
Last weekend, Justin Timberlake was spotted holding hands with Alisha Wainwright, his co-star on the movie he's currently filming in New Orleans.
This created a problem, as Timberlake is married to Jessica Biel, who was at home with the couple's 4-year-old son while Justin was getting handsy with his colleague in the Big Easy.
Earlier this week, Timberlake issued an apology.
He maintained that there's no sexual component to his relationship with Wainwright, but he admits that he became overly friendly with his co-star after consuming one too many hurricanes during a wild night on the town.
“I stay away from gossip as much as I can, but for my family I feel it is important to address recent rumors that are hurting the people I love,” Timberlake wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.
“A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgement — but let me be clear — nothing happened between me and my costar,” he added.
“I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son," Timberlake continued.
"I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that.”
Now, a source close to the situation tells In Touch that Justin had been hoping the controversy would simply blow over, and it was Jessica who forced him to issue a public apology:
“He says he was going to do it anyway, but Jessica pushed Justin to make a public statement,” the insider says.
“It was necessary for his image, but more importantly, another step in saving his marriage. He still has a lot of work ahead of him.”
Yes, it sounds like Jessica isn't quite ready to forgive and forget -- and we can't say we blame her.
Catching your husband with some chick's hand on his knee isn't the same as walking in on them in bed together, but it's still not a great look.
"Justin is cleaning up the mess he made," the source says.
"He had no choice, he had to say something. He humiliated Jessica and while he apologized to her, and still continues to, that wasn’t enough,” the insider adds.
That source seems to be saying that things aren't great between Timberlake and Biel right now, but they'll eventually get past this.
However, a different source tells In Touch that this might be the beginning of the end for Jess and Justin:
“Justin and Jessica have been arguing for months,” says the second informant.
“They’ve been fighting to save the marriage for the sake of Silas, but the photos of him wasted and being all handsy with Alisha is the final nail in the coffin.”
Sounds like these are difficult times in the Timberlake household.
