It's been over three years since Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie separated after more than a decade together.
During that time, the actors have come no closer to setting aside their differences in order to focus on building an amicable co-parenting relationship.
In fact, it seems their situation has only gotten worse.
At this point, Pitt and Jolie have fallen into a pattern in which there's no news about their divorce for several months, but then one of them makes a comment in an interview that's interpreted (fairly or otherwise) as a shot against the other, and the rumors of intense mutual animosity begin all over again.
This time, it was Angelina's turn.
Jolie suggested in a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar that she still feels as though she's being held back by Brad.
Or at least that's the way her remarks about not being able to live wherever she wants were interpreted by the tabloid press.
“I would love to live abroad and will do so as soon as my children are 18," she told the magazine.
"Right now, I’m having to base where their father chooses to live," Jolie continued.
"I want the children to grow up in the world — not just learning about it but living it and having friends around the world.”
Brad has refrained from commenting on Jolie's remarks.
But it seems his mother, Jane Pitt, is more than happy to fight this battle on his behalf.
According to a new report from Radar Online, Angelina and Jane have never gotten along, and their already-tense relationship has further deteriorated in recent years, thanks to what Jane sees as Angie's unfair comments and efforts to keep her children away from Pitt's side of the family.
"She’s done with all this cruelty and unpleasantness that’s been shown towards her son and looking to confront Angie head-on," a source close to the situation tells Radar.
"Jane’s no pushover, and she’s furious at the little amount of time she and [Brad’s dad] Bill have gotten to spend with their grandchildren, too," the insider adds.
"Moreover, though, she wants to give Angie both barrels for the way she still treats her son like dirt. She’s looking forward to it and won’t hold back.”
We're not sure exactly what the source means by "both barrels" but we're guessing the next encounter between Angelina and Jane will not be a civil one.
Or perhaps Jane is just planning to trash Angelina in the press?
Either way, this could get ugly.
The wrath of a Missouri mother-in-law sounds like something that's best avoided.
