It was more than a month after her horrific shooting that Megan Thee Stallion identified Tory Lanez as the shooter.

This week, finally, he has been charged for her shooting.

Weeks ago, rapper Tory Lanez released an album in which he claimed that he was innocent in the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

Apparently, the Deputy District Attorneys of Los Angeles County feel differently.

Prosecutors have now charged Tory in that harrowing incident.

Tory has been charged with one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in the vehicle.

Prosecutors also allege that Tory inflicted great bodily injury … which does seem to match up with everything that we have heard.

After all, Megan had to have bullet fragments surgically removed.

If convicted on these charges, Tory could face up to 22 years and 8 months in prison.

Now, even if he is convicted, that is far from guaranteed, especially since he can likely afford decent legal representation.

The odds are probably pretty good that his team will reach a deal with the DDA assigned to prosecute the case, no matter how serious the crime. It happens every day.

But still, we would love to be surprised!

Domestic violence is a nightmare in any form. No one deserves to fear for their safety because they and their partner had an argument.

When an alleged argument within a couple ends in gunshots, community service and probation and maybe surrendering some firearms don’t really sound adequate.

At first, while prosecutors were considering which charges to direct at Tory, it wasn’t sure if they’d go the distance.

His initial arrest was for … possession of a firearm. Like charging an accused backrobber with disorderly conduct, you know?

Now, however, the prosecution is clearly and explicitly identifying Tory as the shooter who left Megan Thee Stallion with a horrific foot injury.

The moment that news broke that Megan had been shot this summer, all eyes were on Tory Lanez.

The two had been rumored to be in a relationship.

However, it was weeks before Megan outed him as her shooter … a move that she took only after Tory went above and beyond to push a PR campaign claiming that he was innocent.

Megan went from declining to name the man who shot at her, leaving bullet fragments embedded in her feet, to going on social media to call him out.

“Yes … Tory shot me,” she shared later in the summer. “You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people to these blogs lying and s–t, stop lying!”

Wow. That’s a hell of a callout.

Based upon what TMZ has learned, they predict that Tory is going to claim that the shooting was accidental.

We’re not sure how that will fit with him the image that everyone has of him rolling down the window after an argument with Megan, pointing his gun near her feet, and firing.

Accidental shootings do happen, usually with unsecured or poorly “secured” weapons, like a handgun in a purse.

The shooting itself is largely not in doubt. Video evidence reportedly includes police in Hollywood Hills having Tory lie face-down on the pavement.

Megan was filmed gingerly walking on her tip-toes and leaving bloody footprints with each and every agonizing step.

The injuries to her feet were so bad that it apparently took multiple sessions to remove the bullet fragments and repair the damage.

Earlier this month, Megan Thee Stallion identified Tory Lanez as her shooter after keeping quiet for weeks.

Now he appears to be blaming her for getting shot … by bullets that he allegedly fired.

As we said, in case you missed it, earlier this summer, Megan Thee Stallion was the victim of an awful shooting.

Fortunately, she survived, but she shared with fans that she had to have bullet fragments removed from her feet.

She has identified her now-ex boyfriend Tory Lanez as the culprit, confirming what countless fans immediately suspected.

Former NFL player Larry Johnson either chose to make a joke about domestic violence or simply to victim-blame.

He tweeted: “Ladies, if you date a man who coined the term ‘Demon Time,’ and you get shot by him during Demon Hours, be accountable for YOUR stupidity.”

In case there was any doubt among those of us unfamiliar with Tory’s body of work, he tagged the rapper, writing: “#torylanez.”

The Shade Room shared a screenshot of the tweet (in light mode, as you can see) on Instagram.

Tory Lanez, or at least his Instagram account, “liked” the photo.

That is … nothing short of disgusting. It is also deeply stupid.

Let’s say that, hypothetically, a rapper’s girlfriend were fired upon and ended up at the ER, needing bullet fragments removed from her body.

Even if this were immediately after a breakup, the usual move would be to publicly sympathize with her.

The last thing that a person in that situation would generally do would be to “like” a tweet asserting that they were the shooter, and also that it was justified.

According to Megan, she was traveling in an SUV with Tory and others when an argument broke out.

Megan left the vehicle, which was en route to her home, to walk.

This is when she says that Tory, known to be an avid fan of firearms, fired at her out the window of his SUV.

For weeks, Megan avoided even naming Tory as her shooter.

She did not share this crucial detail — the identity of her attacker — with nurses or police at the ER.

Megan also did not name him to the press or on social media … even when the entire world had already concluded that he had likely done the deed.

What prompted her to speak out was Tory’s PR campaign.

She observed that he or people working on his behalf were spreading misinformation and lies about her and the shooting.

This seemed designed to cover for him. Megan could not allow this to go on, so she spoke out.

Many Black celebrities have spoken out on the complex subject of how Black women in the entertainment industry are viewed when their attackers are beloved Black entertainers.

When misogyny and racism collide, Black women lose. The culture needs to change so that women, not just superstar talents like Megan but all women, can be safe.

For weeks, the world has worried and speculated at the horrible shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

Now, she is finally breaking her silence and identifying the man who shot her.

For weeks, fans were pretty sure that they knew that Megan’s shooting was an act of domestic violence.

Only now, on an Instagram Live video, is Megan Thee Stallion confirming that “Yes, this n—a Tory shot me.”

“You shot me,” she reiterates, understandably angry at Tory Lanez.

She explains that she had not planned on coming forward, but that she was forced to by his PR campaign.

“And you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs,” Megan accuses, “lying and s–t.”

She demands that he “Stop lying!”

Apparently, what happened on the night in question is that she and Tory were in a car.

Accompanied by one of her friends and one of Tory’s security personnel, they were headed to her house.

When an argument broke out, Megan exited the vehicle and walked off.

According to Megan’s account of the night, Tory fired at her from the window of the car, where he was riding in the back seat.

Though she suffered from gunshot wounds, she says that she witheld information about the shooting from both hospital staff and police.

Unfortunately, misogyny and racism collide in the worst way for Black women, and so hateful trolls have accused her of fabricating the story.

“Stop trying to come on the internet and act like a Black woman, a grown ass Black woman, has a reason to lie on another Black man,” Megan says on her Life.

“Even though he shot me,” she notes, “I tried to spare him.”

“I go through so much s–t on a daily basis anyway,” Megan remarks.

She had to undergo surgery to remove bullet fragments.

The shooting could have been much worse, but that does not mean that this was not an absolute horror.

This week, the Los angeles County District Attorney’s Office revealed that they are reviewing a potential charge of felony assault with a firearm.

Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, could potentially face other related charges related to the weapon employed in the shooting.

However, at the moment, prosecutors have not commented on that element, and are asking the LAPD to investigate further before they finalize the charges and move forward.

Domestic violence is a horror, one of the most evil acts that a person can commit.

Adding insult to serious, live-threatening injury is the public perception that victims — particularly Black women whose attackers were beloved rappers — should remain silent.

Many, particularly women on Black Twitter, have observed  history repeating itself concerning Chris Brown stans attacking Rihanna online after he attacked her with his fists. 

Now, they say, it’s the same story, new assailant, new victim.

Survivors of attacks always have the right to come forward. Anyone who would attack their partner deserves all of the consequences that the law can throw at them — and more.

Our hearts go out to Megan Thee Stallion. She is talented, she is beloved, and she is also simply a human being who did not deserve to be a victim of a cruel attack.
