After five years of marriage, Pedro Jimeno filed to divorce Chantel Everett.
Chantel filed her response, surprising no one by accusing Pedro of cheating during their marriage.
She had more to say. Unfortunately, details on this divorce may soon become scarce.
Chantel is asking the court to seal the case — claiming that Pedro’s safety is in danger.
In Touch Weekly reports that Chantel Everett filed a motion to seal her ongoing divorce.
She alleged that Pedro Jimeno has been receiving “threats at his place of employment.”
“And,” she then continued, “on various social media platforms.”
Chantel filed these documents this week, in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Her July 12 motion made a case that these threats “could cause potential harm.”
She cited harm “to not only his ability to work but also his physical [and] personal safety.”
But … Chantel fully admits that she is not only thinking of Pedro in this moment.
She expressed that both she and Pedro deserve for their “case to be decided” by the court.
That means “without the weight of public opinion” dogging their heels at every turn, then she explained.
Chantel admitted that she wants to go through this divorce process “without fear of damage” to her public life and reputation.
“Allegations have been made by both parties against one another (in their filings),” she then noted.
Chantel wrote that these are allegations “which are unfavorable to each one’s public reputation.”
He accused her of stealing six figures of funds from a shared account. She has accused him of cheating and abuse.
“Even though these allegations may be common in divorce proceedings,” Chantel acknowledged.
She cited that “the harm to each party’s privacy is uniquely magnified by the electron microscope of modern-day news media.”
Chantel’s filing on July 12 accused Pedro of “adultery.”
She also alleged that he subjected her to “cruel treatment” including “physical domestic violence, as well as mental pain.”
Citing these horrors, Chantel wrote that the marriage is “irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation.”
Some The Family Chantel viewers have noticed how much this season, filmed many months ago, foreshadowed the split.
However, their marital troubles — including harrowing allegations of abuse — are not the only topic on people’s minds.
What does this divorce do regarding Pedro’s legal status?
Pedro Jimeno is a lawful permanent resident. He has a 10-year green card.
That makes sense, because he and Chantel have been married for five years.
Divorce will not change that.
In fact, if Pedro’s goal is to bring his family — including his infamous mother and sister — to the US, it’s still possible.
However, he has another step to complete, and it’s not reconciling with Chantel.
Instead, Pedro will have to naturalize and become a full US citizen before he can file that petition.
Notably, he would not be the first 90 Day Fiance star to become a naturalized citizen.
Famously, Alexei Brovarnik did just that a couple of years ago.
It is a lengthy and unfairly grueling process.
