For months now, we've been hearing reports that Jana Duggar is being courted by Stephen Wissmann.

Stephen is a Nebraska-based businessman and professional pilot, and of course, he's also a fundamentalist Christian whose faith takes center stage in his life.

In other words, other than their little geography problem, Jana and Stephen are perfect for one another.

So what's the hold up?

Why is it that these two have been dating for so much longer than the typical Duggar courtship, with no engagement announcement in sight?

Well, it's possible that the pandemic might have played a role.

Even though the Duggars don't believe in the Covid-19 virus, there's no denying that current conditions can make it a little more difficult to conduct an interstate romance.

But the most likely explanation for the delay is that Jana and Stephen have put their relationship on hold becase of Josh Duggar's arrest on child pornography charges.

Those two aspects of life in the Duggar clan might appear to be unrelated, but Josh's latest scandal has impacted just about everyone who shares his last name.

The entire family has backed away from the spotlight in response to the news of his arrest and the reports about his upcoming trial.

Which is why many believe that Jana and Stephen are already engaged, and they're simply waiting to make an announcement until things are a bit more stable.

Needless to say, they'll be waiting quite a while.

Some have even gone so far as to suggest that Jana and Stephen are already married, but have chosen to keep a low profile until her brother is either exonerated or tossed in the slammer.

That seems a bit far-fecthed.

But it's totally plausible that the young lovebirds are already engaged.

Counting On has been canceled, and Jana's not posting on Instagram nearly as much as she used to, so we have no way of knowing if she's sporting a giant rock on her left hand these days.

But we do know that Jana and Stephen have been spending a lot of time together in recent months.

And if you know anything about the Duggar courtship rules, then you know it's very unlikely that these two are still just casually dating.

Unfortunately, the Wissmanns have been as quiet as the Duggars, including Stephen's sister, Hannah, who's been making tabloid headings in her own right.

There are rumors that Hannah is engaged to Jeremiah Duggar, but the future of that relationship depends at least partially on the relationship between Jana and Stephen.

After all, it seems unlikely that Jim Bob would allow yet another Duggar to get married before Jana.

So it's not hard to see why fans might turn to Stephen's sister for information about this complex situation.

Unfortunately, Hannah's comments are not exactly helpful.

“When is the next Wissmann wedding?” a fan recently asked Hannah on Instagram.

“Haha!” she answered. “No idea!”

Naturally, this led to rampant speculation that she does know, and she's involved in the effort to keep the truth from fans.

“It’s possible she was being sarcastic or joking with the wedding answer — maybe she knew who asked it and was being ‘funny,’ hence the ‘haha’ to start,” one Reddit user wrote.

“Why add the ‘haha’? Saying ‘no idea’ alone would have been clearer.”

“Unless they’re already engaged and have not chosen a wedding date,” another added. “Fundies love to say things that aren’t considered lying, but still not the full truth.”

“Exactly. I don’t think she would give any details that the (possible) couple hasn’t publicized themselves, yet," a third chimed in.

It may be quite some time before we know the full truth of this situation.

But it seems almost certain that Hannah is playing a role in keeping that truth concealed.
