Peter Weber and Madison Prewett: Where Did It Go Wrong?

Peter Weber and Madison Prewett sort warned us, didn't they?

Yes, The Bachelor and his runner-up got together on a Tuesday night and then broke up on a Thursday evening, splitting after a mere 48 hours as a quasi couple.

But while that may seem a tad bit crazy, let's go back to the After the Final Rose special, shall we?

This is what Peter told Chris Harrison during the segment that announced his romance with Madison to the world:

I think [we'll] take it one step at a time, one day at a time. That is the smartest way to go about this. I know that I have a lot of healing to do. I know she does, too.

But the way I feel for you, that's never changed and I never lost that. Whatever that means, whatever this turns into...

Do we have a million and one obstacles? Yeah. Is it all uphill? Probably.

Madi Prewett and Peter Weber

In hindsight, those didn't sound like the words of someone confident his relationship was going to work out, did they?

Peter, of course, proposed to a different woman (Hannah Ann Sluss) just weeks before he and Prewett agreed to date, seemingly choosing her because Madison had taken himself out of the running.

She did so after Peter's mom made it clear she basically hates Madison.

And also after Madison and Peter got into a debate over how the former is a virgin who really didn't want Peter to sleep with other contestants.

Madison with Peter on The Bachelor

So... yeah.

Peter and Madison faced some pretty huge personal obstacles in their relationship -- and that was without Peter's mom publicly dooming the relationship on live television.

"All his friends, all his family, everyone that knows him knows that it's not going to work. So we've been trying to help them. Would we want it to work? Yes," Barbara Weber said during the After the Final Rose special.

At the time, Peter insisted his love for Prewett was enough to make it work, but a few days later he announced:

"Madi and I have mutually decided not to pursue our relationship any further."

Madison and Peter Down Under

Madison had kind words for the handsome pilot, but echoed his sentiment on Instagram.

"As Peter and I have decided to go our separate ways, I am confident that we will both move in the direction of our purpose and never forget that God has a plan in all things," she said.

Neither side really illustrated what went wrong upon confirming they were going their separate ways...

...  but it has sort of been foreshadowed by all we saw on The Bachelor and all people close to the situation said afterward.

Rose for Madison

Simply put, "everything would have been too much of an uphill battle," an insider tells E! News of Weber and Prewett, concluding:

"They still loved each other and wanted to take it day by day."

As for what the reality stars are up to these days?

This same source says Madison's back to "spending time with family and close friends" in Auburn, while Peter is doing the same in California.
