Sandra Oh Weighs In On 'Princess Diaries 3,' Reveals If She Wants to Reprise Her Iconic Role

Sandra Oh is looking back fondly on her time as Vice Principal Gupta in The Princess Diaries.

The 51-year-old Killing Eve star had a small but meaningful role in the first movie in the hit franchise, which starred Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. If you were unaware, a follow-up to The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement is in the works over at Disney.

During a recent interview, Sandra revealed if she was interested in reprising her role. She also weighed in on her character’s enduring impact.

Speaking to EW, Sandra made it very clear that V.P. Gupta was down to return for another round.

“I am ready for the Queen. Call me! I’m dying to see how Gupta has moved up in the world,” she enthused.

Sandra added that she had “no idea” why her character is still so iconic.

“I feel it’s like your generation that hit when you were all very young,” she mused. “I remember it was like 2015, I was walking down the street in Chicago, and there [was] a young person, who at that point in 2015, was not my usual demographic, which was like a college-aged, straight white guy. He passed me and then he ran back up to me and did the line: ‘Uh huh. Uh huh. Uh huh. The Queen is coming.’”

The experience surprised her: “I was like, ‘Who is this 20-year-old frat boy?’ He was coming up to me doing that line.” And, yes: Oh has seen those TikTok parodies with folks recreating the scene using their cats as the phone.”

It is currently unclear who from the original two movies will appear in the franchise. Last year, a report revealed if Julie is prepared to become Queen Clarisse Renaldi again. Another fan-favorite actress also weighed in on returning to the franchise.
