Ariela Weinberg and Biniyam Shibre made their 90 Day Fiance comeback with a splash.

While many of us were familiar with the The Other Way alums long before Ariela got blasted with red wine, there are still questions.

The specter of Bini’s ex has haunted his relationship with Ari since day one.

But why exactly did his ex-wife leave him to raise their child in America as a single mom?

Years ago, Biniyam Shibre met Bria when she was visiting Ethiopia.

Like Ariela, Bria was an American woman from an affluent family.

They hooked up, she ended up being pregnant … also like Ariela.

Biniyam has spoken repeatedly about his heartbreak over losing his family — Bria, but also his young son, Simon.

He has only shared a limited amount of information about why (from his side of things) Bria broke up with him.

Bini has said that he was “confused” by the split, but that’s not really an explanation.

Biniyam also admitted that Bria had accused him of cheating.

While she was certainly not the last to do so, Bini insisted that he was merely speaking to another woman, who was his friend.

Bini told her that he “didn’t do anything wrong,” but Bria ended up blocking him, raising her son alone in the United States.

It is heartbreaking to think of a family torn apart.

Breakups happen — even for married couples, even for couples with children.

But fans have wondered why Bini lost all access to his child, seemingly, and wondered if there is more to the story.

At the same time, it’s puzzling that Biniyam would apparently not effect any changes in his life and in his behavior as a partner.

To hear him tell it, Bria accused him of cheating, he denied it, and then she broke up with him.

That’s vague … but it also hasn’t seemed to be enough of a hint for Bini to act as a better partner to other women.

Biniyam’s ex-girlfriend, the one whose butt he sometimes plays like a drum set, also believed that he cheated when they dated.

Ariela confirmed this after having her own suspicions.

Even if Bini is somehow totally innocent of cheating in all three cases, he didn’t exactly do a lot to quash any “unfounded” suspicions.

A major issue for Ari and Biniyam on 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way Season 3 was Bini going unreachable, on purpose, for hours or days at a time.

It was already bad when Ari and baby Avi were there in Ethiopia, waiting for him at home but unable to reach him.

It was worse when they were in New Jersey, trying to reach him but unable to, while Bini turned their family home into a party house and music studio.

Some fans have wondered if Biniyam is playing some sort of long con with Ariela.

He ostensibly wants to be reunited with Simon, but cannot just go to the United States whenever he likes.

Impregnating an American tourist who comes from money with the plan of eventually marrying her and moving to the US would be a plan to get what he wants.

That said … it’s really difficult to see Biniyam as some sort of evil genius.

If his goal were to come to the United States all along, he could have at least faked being a good, respectful, attentive partner for a few years.

It’s also unclear how much he event wanted to come to America. It sounds like he’s all but being dragged to New Jersey by Ari.

What’s not just speculation is the effect that Bini’s breakup with Bria has had upon Ariela and her behavior during the relationship.

While Ari has many issues (so many), she has gone above and beyond what anyone could reasonably ask — all to reassure Bini that she’s not like his ex.

From moving to Ethiopia to giving birth there to showing an inordinate amount of patience, even to attending his religious ceremonies and festivals, 

Viewers have never heard from Bria, and one has to wonder if she would tell a very different version of events if she appeared on a Tell All.

Instead, we’re left guessing and hearing only Biniyam’s side of things.

It’s enough to make you wish that Ariela’s parents were messy enough to hire a P.I. to look into things.

After weeks of fans wondering when we’ll see Ariela and Biniyam on 90 Day Fiance Season 9, the wait is over.

If you want to see Bini’s sister throw wine in Ari’s face, you don’t even have to wait until Sunday.

In this sneak peek clip ahead of Season 9, Episode 3, this season’s one familiar couple — Ariela Weinberg and Biniyam Shibre — is back.

Bini is breaking the news to his family, specifically to sisters Mimi and Wish, that he’s moving from Ethiopia to New Jersey.

Ari is from New Jersey, her family lives there, and after so many mishaps (and the Tigray War in Ethiopia), that’s where they’re taking their family.

Mimi and Wish do not take the news well. Shocker.

“If you thought about us as a family, maybe a heads up would have been nice!” Wish admonishes Ariela in this sneak peek.

She laments: “Both you and her knew all this time and kept it secret. It sucks.”

Suck though it may, holding it back was Biniyam’s call, not Ariela’s, even though she is getting most of the blame.

“Him not telling you guys has nothing to do with me. It’s nothing to do with me at all!” Ari protests.

She emphasizes: “I would never tell him never not to tell his family, that would be so f–ked up on so many levels. I would never do that.”

“I don’t care whose fault it is, but if you think you are family, you should tell us,” Wish counters.

“He should tell us too,” Wish admits, before claiming: “We treat you like a sister.”

Wait, since when?

“You don’t treat me like a sister!” Ari fires back. “If that’s how you treat your sister, I want nothing to do with it.”

She tells them plainly: “I’m happy that I’m not going to see you guys anymore. And you know what? I’m not going to marry you guys. I’m marrying Biniyam.” 

This is when Wish douses her with a face full of red wine, leaving Ariela sputtering and admitting that the wine stings. Youch!

In case you needed a refresher, Ariela Weinberg is from New Jersey, Biniyam Shibre is from Ethiopia.

Before filming for the show, Ariela took an extended vacation in Ethiopia, where she met Bini and was overtaken by thirst.

That chance meeting led to a series of life-changing events, including appearing on Seasons 2 and 3 of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way.

Biniyam and Ariela hooked up, and she ended up pregnant — but this was not really a “first” for either of them.

Ari has been married before, to a man from Argentina, though they are now divorced.

Biniyam was also married to an American woman before. Like Ari, she also had his child.

At every step of the way, Ariela bent over backwards to prove to Bini, his family, and herself that she is not like his ex.

Biniyam had missed the birth of his first child, unable to obtain a visa to the United States.

With that in mind, Ariela flew to Ethiopia, leaving her family and home behind, so that she could give birth in Ethiopa where Bini could be part of it.

At first, Biniyam made a good impression on viewers, even when his attempts to provide accommodations fell short.

He came across as a well-intentioned nice guy who would do anything for the mother of his child.

It was Ariela who ended up handling their housing needs. Once things were set up, her mom, Janice, flew home, planning to return for her grandbaby’s birth.

At the beginning of their first season, red flags seemed to be small in number.

Was it odd that Biniyam had now impregnated two different American women from affluent families? Yeah.

Was it encouraging that Ariela was admittedly “jealous” at heart? Not especially. But those aren’t huge deals compared to this franchise’s other drama.

Ariela got bad news, however, during a pre-natal checkup.

She had to deliver her son through an emergency C-section, which would have been scary even if her family had been there.

Instead, since she had to go to surgery with little warning, her family wouldn’t be there for some time.

Despite some initial concerns about baby Aviel, both he and Ariela were born healthy.

The couple’s next big worry turned out to be something that they should have discussed much earlier.

Biniyam wanted to circumcise his son. Ariela countered, highlighting her son’s human rights and worrying that he might grow up to hate her if she subjected him to genital mutilation.

This was a turning point for some viewers, because from one episode to the next, Ariela caved to family pressure from both sides.

Biniyam’s family had cultural expectations. Ariela is Jewish, and her father’s side of the family is also Jewish, and they had their own expectations.

Seeing Ariela do a 180, listening to her son’s screams in the hospital, lost her some fans who couldn’t understand her change of heart.

The main problems of their relationship were iterations of the same thing: Ariela would stay at home with Avi, Bini would leave for hours or days at a time.

Whether doing his “music” or hanging out with friends, he would sometimes turn off his phone or put it in airplane mode to stop her from being able to reach him.

Biniyam would defend this behavior by citing cultural norms, but it’s difficult to argue that he was being a good partner — or a good dad — by vanishing like that.

As we saw in the sneak peek for Ariela and Biniyam’s debut on Season 9, she also clashes with his sisters. A lot.

No matter how far she goes or how many concessions she makes in Bini’s favor, it’s never enough.

For two people who claim to fear that Ari will leave Bini “just like his ex,” Mimi and Wish at times seemed eager to drive her away.

Ariela and Biniyam, divisive though they are among fans, are one of the most one-sided couples to appear on the franchise.

In addition to moving to Ethiopia, Ariela has repeatedly attended Biniyam’s Ethiopian Orthodox Christian religious events, from ceremonies to holidays.

Some viewers have expressed discomfort at seeing a Jewish woman wrapped up in so many of her partner’s Christian celebrations without even a hint that he might return the favor.

Ariela has been put on blast again and again by fans who say that she whines and complains a lot — which, to be fair, she absolutely does.

But what has all of that complaining gotten her? Biniyam seems to get his way every time, dismissing her wishes as “ridiculous.”

In fact, this move to the United States seems to be the first time that Bini has made a major concession. Maybe coming to America will change things … but only time will tell.

Um … where are Ariela Weinberg and Biniyam Shibre?

That’s the question that a lot of 90 Day Fiance viewers are asking, because we’re a couple of episodes into Season 9 with no sign of them.

They’re part of the Season 9 cast unless something very strange — but not unprecedented — has happened.

So when are viewers finally going to see them?

Ariela and Biniyam aren’t fan-favorites, exactly, but they are one of the most discussed and polarizing couples on the franchise.

That notoriety and divisive audience reaction earned them two seasons of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way before they made the move, in more ways than one.

Now they’re supposed to be on 90 Day Fiance Season 9, with the show hyping things up by showing their drama on the trailer.

Some fans feel weirded out that the show dangled this can’t-miss couple in front of them on trailers, but has now spent two full episodes introducing only new cast members.

Don’t get us wrong, we already have plenty to talk about from Season 9, Episode 1 and Season 9, Episode 2.

But did Ari and Bini get scrubbed like Alina Kasha? If not, how long will viewers have to wait.

At the end of the second episode, however, the preview for Season 9, Episode 3 teased Ariela and Biniyam’s return.

It looks like things are starting out in Ethiopia, at least in part.

That would explain Ari’s messy sit-down with Biniyam’s sisters … the one that ends badly.

Some fans want all new couples, others struggle to care about new faces, and a shocking number of viewers fall in both categories.

It seems likely that the editing team had that in mind, bringing back these two but not inundating viewers with them at first.

It’s also possible that Ari and Bini have less drama and thus less screen time, but given their history … that seems unlikely.

Ariela Weinberg is a free-spirited woman from New Jersey.

Biniyam Shibre is an entertainer from Ethiopia.

Filled with wanderlust, Ariela took an affordable extended vacation in Ethiopia, where she met Bini.

Biniyam impregnated Ariela, which sounds like one of those random events … but this isn’t really new territory for the two of them.

Ariela was married for years to man from Argentina, where she met and lived with him.

And Biniyam was previously married to an American woman after, you guessed it, impregnating her, too.

The specter of Biniyam’s previous marriage ended up dictating the shape of his and Ariela’s love story.

Ariela’s parents are both in medicine — her father a doctor, her mother a nurse — and could have given birth near home.

Instead, she flew back to Ethiopia while very pregnant so that Bini could witness the birth of his child, which he did not get to do the first time around.

There were issues from the start, but initially, Biniyam made a good impression on viewers.

He seemed like a sweetheart, trying to accommodate Ariela, even though he came up short in several instances.

Ariela ended up being the one to cover their housing, so that all of her needs and Bini’s could be met as her due date approached.

Early on, the red flags seemed very small.

Yes, it was weird that Bini had impregnated two different American women.

It also seemed less than ideal that Ariela openly described herself as a “jealous” person, as fans wondered what would come of this.

Ariela’s family had planned to fly to Ethiopia to see their grandbaby born and to help Ariela recover after giving birth.

Things turned out very different.

Ari ended up delivering early via emergency C-section, a terrifying prospect even under the best of circumstances.

Fortunately, Ariela and Avi ended up being healthy, despite some initial concerns similar to those about Biniyam’s first son (who now lives in the US with his mother).

Next, Ari and Bini clashed over circumcision, which is a cultural practice in Ethiopia but which Ari opposed on humanitarian grounds.

Ariela is Jewish, but (like numerous Jewish intactivists) highlighted her infant son’s human rights, and feared that cosmetic surgery on his genitals without his consent might cause him to grow up to hate her.

Viewers were perplexed, to say the least, when the next episode showed Ariela cave to pressure from Bini and from her own relatives.

Even after explaining to the camera why she knew that it was wrong, Ariela brought her son to be circumcised, weeping while listening to his screams of pain.

To say that Ari lost a lot of fans with that move is an understatement. 

What followed of their life in Ethiopia was a lot of the same conflicts, playing out again and again and again.

Biniyam would essentially vanish for hours or even days at a time, leaving his girlfriend (and later, fiancee) wondering where he was.

He would ignore her calls or even put his phone in airplane mode to make himself unreachable, even knowing that his baby was at home.

Ariela also got into conflict with Biniyam’s family, particularly with sisters Mimi and Wish.

Even attending family events and supporting Bini as he pursues his “music career,” it seems that she can do no right in their eyes.

And when Ariela reaches out to them to find out where Bini is when he disappears, they accuse her of being controlling.

Even Ari’s toughest critics cannot honestly claim that she didn’t try — in fact, she bent over backwards to meet Bini’s family’s demands.

After moving to Ethiopia to not only give birth but begin to raise their son, Ariela also attended numerous religious rights to please Biniyam.

Numerous viewers have expressed discomfort at seeing a Jewish woman attend so many Orthodox Christian ceremonies and sacred sites, with zero reciprocation.

In fact, for all of Ariela’s whining and tears, it seems that Biniyam is the one who regularly gets his way.

A few times, Ari has put her foot down, like after Biniyam turned their house into party central and allegedly cheated on her.

At the end of their last season of The Other Way, the couple resolved to move to America … assuming that Bini’s K-1 visa could be approved.

It’s no secret that it was approved. Even if we hadn’t reported on Bini being in the U.S. before, he also appeared in person on the Tell All.

Maybe they will have fewer conflicts now that Biniyam is away from bad influences and is less likely to vanish for days at a time.

Or maybe they’ll have brand new problems to overcome now that Bini, not Ari, is the fish out of water. We’ll find out soon.
