The REAL Reason RHONY Reunion Was Canceled — Racism Allegations?!

There apparently was more to the story behind The Real Housewives of New York reunion cancellation. After pushing back the shoot date for months, for the first time in the history of Real Housewives, Bravo decided back in September to skip the reunion show for season 13 of RHONY, with a spokesperson initially placing blame […]

The post The REAL Reason RHONY Reunion Was Canceled — Racism Allegations?! appeared first on Perez Hilton.

Why Did Bravo Cancel The Real Housewives of New York City’s Season 13 Reunion?

After weeks and weeks of delays, the The Real Housewives of New York City Reunion was canceled by Bravo.

Ostensibly, the cancelation was due to scheduling and personality conflicts after a troubled season.

Now, we know the truth.

Bravo conducted an investigation into Ramona Singer for alleged racism … which led to there being no Reunion at all.

TMZ reports that Bravo initiated an ongoing third-party investigation.

The investigation followed Eboni K. Williams reporting an allegation of racism against Ramona Singer.

She filed the formal complaint weeks before the original Season 13 Reunion special would have been filmed.

Apparently the probe was investigating a “racially motivated” comment made by Ramona.

The investigation launched and got underway.

Bravo decided to keep pushing back and postponing the Reunion filming until the investigation had concluded.

The investigation included sit-down interviews with both the cast and production crew.

Ultimately, the investigators did not speak to anyone who corroborated Eboni’s report.

As is often the case following this kind of TV network investigation, there’s a lot that we don’t know, but it looks like Ramona is off the hook.

However, once the investigation concluded it’s apparently unsuccessful fact-finding mission, time had passed.

The network concluded that it was really too late to film the Reunion at this point.

After all, there had been so many weeks since the previous season had filmed. It was time to move on.

“It was already a low-rated season,” observed one inside source that spoke to TMZ.

“So,” the insider explained, “there were concerns about who would tune in 3 months later.”

That is understandable — Reunions aren’t just interesting, they are also expensive, and gamble on being widely viewed.

Eboni was not the only one to speak out about Ramona.

A crew member had also filed a complaint about Ramona, specifically on the topic of race.

Knowing that she was not the first to experience this from Ramona reportedly encouraged Eboni to file her complaint.

While no one is exactly surprised to hear that Ramona doesn’t know how to speak on matters of race, apparently it’s not enough.

Will the next person to file a complaint get better results?

Or will knowing that even a fellow Housewife’s complaint went nowhere drive crew members to keep quiet no matter what she does?

That said, while many are disappointed, Eboni was allegedly — per this insider — satisfied that at least there was an investigation.

However, Eboni didn’t want the Reunion canceled and felt that she had unfinished business with her castmates.

All of the Housewives lost out on some money when the Reunion was canceled, with OGs like Ramona, Luann, and Sonja missing out on a six-figure paycheck.

Reports about what is to come in Season 14 have been all over the place.

Some claim that the new season will see a bunch of returning OGs.

Others think that it will be a little more varied with old and new cast members.

We hope to see Eboni return for another season. First of all, she’s smart and a good addition to the cast.

Given that so much of the backlash against Season 13 was loaded with white fragility and outright racism, not asking her back would send the wrong message.

Besides, Eboni has a score to settle with some of her castmates.

RHONY’s Eboni Williams Sounds Off On Rumors Ramona Singer Got ‘Fired’ After Cringy Season!

Eboni K. Williams may have made some of her Real Housewives of New York castmates look like spoiled produce during this very socially aware new season — but she doesn’t want anyone to get fired over it! The show’s first Black star opened up about the ongoing drama between her and Ramona Singer in a […]

Eboni K Williams Eviscerates Claims She Tanked RHONY’s Ratings: Blame the OGs!

Rumors about RHONY and about Eboni K. Williams has been so heated and nasty that Andy Cohen has had to step in.

It’s no secret that there are some people who are threatened by Eboni speaking about her lived experiences as a Black woman.

We’re not just talking about Ramona. Some audience members have blamed Eboni for this season’s low ratings.

Eboni is pointing out that that’s nonsense.

Speaking to the Insider, Eboni K. Williams is brushing off the accusation that she’s somehow dooming the longstanding series.

“From my experience in television, any expectation to carry ratings around a program will go to the veteran talent,” she noted.

Plenty of newcomers aren’t well liked (albeit Eboni’s case is more complicated) without it impacting ratings, because the OG’s make up the difference.

“So I think it’s nonsense to correlate the ratings performance of a 13-year series to a freshman talent,” Eboni stated.

She added: “I just don’t buy it.”

The ball would be in the court of Luann, of Ramona, of Sonja … of everyone else, even Leah, before the newest face.

Eboni also noted that, in many cases, television ratings have been down.

She explained that the ratings decline may have less to do with the show itself than it does with the “viewing habits of our nation.”

“People are not watching appointment television the way they used to two or even three years ago,” Eboni explained.

“That’s the reality,” Eboni affirmed.

“The other reality is RHONY‘s ratings were disproportionately up last season,” she added.

This was the case “because the series premiered in April of 2020.”

“Which was literally the inauguration, like the kickoff of the lockdown of a national and global lockdown,” Eboni accurately characterized.

She summarized the situation: “People literally had nowhere else to go.”

Meanwhile, while going out on the town can be hazardous as the unmasked and unvaccinated prolong this pandemic needlessly, more people are going out.

Infamously, Ramona and Luann have both whined that they have to learn about other people now that Eboni’s on the show.

Recently, Eboni hosted a party that showcased elements of Black history.

Some of her castmates feigned surprise at the topics and convsersations that followed.

“They knew exactly what to expect,” Eboni clarified in the interview.

“I let them know that there would be learning about the history of iconic Harlem,” she added.

Eboni specified: “I told them verbally in the invitation.”

Notably, Sonja even brought her reading glasses with that in mind.

“If you look back at the scene, you’ll see her putting them on,” Eboni added.

She explained: “She knew she was going to get an education.”

Eboni explained that she is far from the first Housewife on the show to talk about history and culture.

“Sonja Morgan took everybody to Philadelphia to go to the Morgan library and hear the history of John P. Morgan [and the] family legacy,” she recalled.

“Which is great,” Eboni continued, “that’s considered interesting.”

“So it’s only when … it’s accompanied by this Black American education,” Eboni said, “now the event becomes boring.”

“[That] tells me what you’re bored by is the learning and education of Black American life,” she expressed.

Yes. Either that, or people are unwilling to express their true feelings, and claim to be “bored” when they’re really uncomfortable.

RHONY Midseason 13 Promo

Sometimes, learning new information makes you uncomfortable. That’s life!

But when white fragility is used to silence Black voices, whether the stakes are high or as low as they are for talks amongst the Housewives, that’s not good.

It is hoped that Bravo will ignore the calls to oust Eboni. If the network loses some white insecurity among their viewers, well, that’s a good thing.

The Real Housewives of New York City Stars PANIC as Bravo Considers Shakeup

It’s no secret that this season of The Real Housewives of New York City has struggled a bit.

Whether the ratings are actually “bad” is debatable, but fans are expecting changes for Season 14.

The cast members are, too.

And reportedly some of them are in a panic over who will get to keep their Apple and who will be sent packing.

RHONY Midseason 13 Promo

An inside source spoke to The Sun about how the Housewives are feeling amidst rumors of another infamous casting shakeup.

“Things are in a complete state of panic amongst the cast of RHONY,” the insider reported.

According to the source, “Ramona is NOT the only one on the chopping block.”

“There could be a complete revamp of the show,” the insider warned.

“And,” the source added, “three or more people may be fired.”

The insider alleged that “Eboni, Ramona, and Leah are ALL in danger.”

“People have been very vocal about their dislike for Ramona this season,” the source pointed out.

The insider followed that by acknowledging: “It doesn’t make sense to have her on the show anymore.”

“She has become completely unlikable,” the source characterized of Ramona.

“As for Leah and Eboni,” the insider continued.

“They have been criticized by viewers on social media,” the source noted.

The insider opined: “And Eboni blaming producers for low ratings last week doesn’t help her case.”

Recently, a number of fans declared on social media that Eboni discussing her life and experiences as a Black woman was hurting ratings.

Eboni replied at the time that she doesn’t control the final cut of the show.

There are many conversations that don’t make it onto the screen. Production makes those decisions, not the stars.

“Luann and Sonja seem to be the only two in the cast that are safe,” the source observed.

The insider explained: “The audience likes them and they test well.”

Meanwhile, the overall situation behind the scenes is characterized as a “nightmare.”

The actual Housewives are reportedly hoping to know their fates as soon as possible.

It’s very understandable that they want to know whether they will be asked back.

However, the producers will want to ‘wait until the very last minute” to make actual offers for Season 14.

Producers have a complicated decision to make right now.

The easiest answer would to say “people are whining about Eboni right now; our white audience doesn’t want to think about systemic racism.”

But is catering to white fragility the best move forward for the franchise?

The The Bachelor franchise made a similar decision for years.

You don’t have 12 consecutive Bachelorettes and 24 consecutive Bachelors without a single Black lead, respectively, in a vacuum.

That was a choice that production made, year after year, a choice that was less deniable as time went on.

Many of us saw how that ended — with racist rage early this year amidst Rachael Kirkconnell’s racism scandal and Chris Harrison leaving the franchise.

Bravo must have watched ABC go through this with trepidation.

This franchise will have to decide if they’ve learned from the other’s mistakes, or if they aim to repeat them but prioritizing white fragility.

Ramona Singer Shuts Down Eboni K. Williams: I Want to Ignore Politics, Thanks!

While Bravo is already looking into casting changes for next season of RHONY, this season was filmed many months ago.

During the week of the historic 2020 elections, only one thing (aside from Supernatural‘s long-awaited twist) was on anyone’s mind.

Naturally, Eboni brought it up during a scene filmed during that tense time.

But Ramona totally shut her down.

In the first week of November in 2020, the world got a taste of hope for the first time in a long time.

Though we all acutely remember the agonizing uncertainty in the air, an official election victory seemed imminent.

It was. But until then, it was obviously occupying the thoughts of Eboni Williams.

Ramona Singer invited Eboni to stop by her home.

Given the election season vibes in the air, Eboni of course brought it up.

She didn’t get directly political, instead asking Ramona about how exciting having a woman as Vice President would be.

Ramona instantly shut her down, saying: “I don’t want to talk politics.”

Eboni quickly noted that it’s not like she was discussing politics — just a gender milestone.

“Have we had a woman vice president, Ramona?” Eboni asked. “That’s an objective fact.”

Eboni’s hope was that she and Ramona could agree that this was a “middle ground” upon which they could agree without discussing candidates.

“You know I’m not going to let you off the hook,” Eboni told her castmate.

Ramona did not stop trying to change the subject, one that was clearly making her uncomfortable.

To her credit, Ramona did thank Eboni for making her aware of pervasive microaggressions against the Black community.

She also appreciated how Eboni had explained the concept of white female fragility, and how it is too often weaponized against marginalized communities.

All that it takes is one good explanation to reach you and you realize how awful some things in the world truly are.

Eboni also commented that the election illustrated that we are a “divided country.”

“Can we just change the subject?” Ramona demanded, standing up.

“I’m going to take a step away because, you know what, I don’t want to do this. I don’t.”

“I’m liking you. I don’t know you that well,” Ramona told Eboni.

She expressed: “I feel like you’re teaching me, you’re preaching me.”

Ramona left the room to go chat with her dog fo ra bit.

Eboni explained to the confessional that she was not trying to delve into party politics with Ramona.

Instead, she was “trying to understand what [her] values are.”

Unfortunately, Eboni for some reason misused the word “triggered” in her confessional, which is just never okay.

Ramona returned and explained that she just wanted to “have fun” after what had been a stressful week.

Eboni correctly pointed out that only people living privileged lives can just ignore politics.

It’s a luxury that the marginalized cannot afford. Elections can mean life or death.

(Genuinely, someone not wanting to discuss politics at all is a red flag, but not everyone wants to discuss it at all times)

Ramona accused Eboni of “preaching” to her, followed by both women accusing the other of gaslighting.

Another misused term.

Neither of them were gaslighting.

If a Real Housewife is ever being manipulated to believe that they are losing their minds, literally, we will report on it.

Eboni then explained that she is trying to lay the foundation of a genuine, and hopefully lasting, bond with her castmate.

“I’m telling you that I want to have a real friendship with you Ramona because I like you,” Eboni noted.

“But you can’t like me only when I say the things you want me to say,” she reasoned.

That’s not unfair.

Ramona replied that she did not want to discuss “race, religion, or creed” with anyone, not just with Eboni.

She asked Eboni to “back off a little bit” because “the other girls aren’t feeling rally good about this.”

Ramona claimed that “they feel like you’re lecturing us.”

“They should be big girls because everybody is an adult and they should say how they feel,” Eboni suggested.

She advised Ramona: “You can’t tell me not to talk about how I feel.”

Ramona complained that the conversation was getting “too heavy” for her.

“This is too serious of a conversation,” Ramona expressed.

“When I just want to enjoy my life,” she said. “I want to escape for 24 hours.”

Eboni replied: “I’m glad you can do that, I don’t have the privilege to do that.”

Eboni pointed to her skin: “Am I supposed to take this off and hang it up?”

She then quipped: “Do you have a coat closet for my Blackness, Ramona?”

“I’m feeling I’m being attacked,” Ramona complained.

Ramona then attempted to show that she takes conversations about race seriously.

She attempted to refer to CJ Walker, a Black woman who was the first woman in America to be a self-made millionaire.

Ramona being Ramona, she called her “EJ Walker” by mistake.

Flustered by the topic and her mistake, Ramona said: “Oh whatever. I gotta go now. Okay, I’m going.”

She said this from inside of her own home. Oh, Ramona.

She also voiced her resentment that Eboni had corrected her. Eventually, though, the two did hug it out. So … yay?

The Real Housewives of NYC Trailer: Welcome, Eboni K. Williams!

At. Last.

Finally, after a dozen seasons on the air, The Real Housewives of New York City is set to make history in 2021.

The long-running Bravo franchise is set to welcome its first-ever Black cast member, Eboni K. Williams.

An attorney and television host, Williams is featured prominently in the just-released trailer for new series episodes.

“I like Eboni a lot,” Luann de Lesseps says as a montage unfolds of the newbie happily mingling with the other women, including Ramona Singer, Leah McSweeney and Sonja Morgan.

However, this may stun you, but not everything will be peachy keen when it comes to Eboni and these veteran stars.

The trailer eventually teases a confrontation between Eboni and Ramona.

In one scene that stands out, Williams calls out her castmate after Ramona is heard referring to her house staff as “the help.”

“The ‘help’ comment was a little triggering for me,” she says, to which Ramona replies;

“Here’s to hospitality assistance.”

Cut to another scene… and these same two ladies are sitting down to have a chat when Ramona accuses Eboni of “preaching” at her, prompting another argument.

“That’s gaslighting,” Eboni responds.

Ramona isn’t the only person to clash with the newcomer, either.

When Williams says she has “more education, frankly, than anyone at this table,” Luann quickly grows offended and angry.

“Don’t come into my house and tell me I don’t have an education,” she fires back.

“I can leave your house, Lu,” Eboni replies, unbothered by the exchange.

Elsewhere, Sonja Morgan has her own issues with Luann in the preview, accusing her pal of spending too much time with boyfriend Garth Wakeford.

“Garth, Garth, Garth, it’s always Garth,” Sonja says.

Later, the Sonja by Sonja Morgan designer comes under fire for her drinking… again.

“I just feel like, checked the f—k out,” Morgan confesses after she’s featured punching through glass and being held back.

Yikes, huh?

Leah McSweeney, who joined the cast of during season 12, wraps up the trailer by trashing the women as the “biggest hoes ever.”

”You’re a f–king hoe, you’re a hoe, you’re a hoe, you’re a hoe!” screams the 38-year old in one clip.

Casting-wise, former Real Housewives of New York City star Heather Thomson and newcomer Bershan Shaw also appear in this video, confirming their recurring roles on the season.

“I’m thankful to be a part of the Bravo team and I’m thrilled about the diversity and inclusion this season brings,” Bershan told E! News on March 2, five months after she was spotted filming scenes for season 13.

“I am a warrior for all people and so are the ladies.”

The Real Housewives of New York City returns to Bravo Tuesday, May 4 at 9/8c.
