Entertainment superstar JoJo Siwa has made Dancing With The Stars history this season.
2021 has been a big year from her, including her publicly coming out as gay and debuting her girlfriend.
But young love is fleeting, and JoJo is a teenager.
She and her girlfriend have now split.
After less than one year, JoJo Siwa’s romance with Kylie Prew has ended.
An inside source spoke to Us Weekly about the breakup, first and foremost to confirm it.
“JoJo and Kylie did break up,” the insider acknowledged.
“Some [Dancing With the Stars] cast are aware about the breakup,” the source revealed.
Additionally, the insider offered up a little bit of context on the split: the timing of it all.
The breakup happened about two weeks ago.
“Kylie stopped attending the show,” the source detailed.
“So,” the insider explained, “she hasn’t been seen in the audience since they split.”
That absence spoke volumes, and was part of the reason that many had wondered if the two were on the outs.
“JoJo is focusing on the competition and giving her all,” the source affirmed.
“While it’s a rough time for her,” the insider acknowledged, “she’s handling DWTS very professionally.”
“And still putting on a smile,” the source said, “and giving 100 percent.”
According to the insider: “She doesn’t want to let down her fans.”
That is no surprise.
JoJo Siwa is a consummate professional who has been an entertainer for most of her life.
Fortunately, she’s not going through this breakup alone.
“Jenna’s like a big sister to [JoJo],” the source says, referring to her dance partner, Jenna Johnson.
However, it sounds like JoJo being on the dance competition has “nothing to do” with the actual breakup.
Earlier this month, JoJo alluded to the breakup — at least, that is easy to see in hindsight.
“This has been a WEEK,” she expressed at the time.
“My brain has never been so overwhelmed/overloaded,” JoJo admitted, “with not only work but also personal life.”
Those of us who are adults might think of breakups as a painful event from which we must move on.
But teenagers, full of hormones and experiencing new things, often feel breakups — and everything else — more acutely than we do.
It’s not that grownups don’t have feelings, but they’re not usually as intense. Plus, we have more coping strategies than an 18-year-old.
It’s unfortunate that a teen — especially a gay teenager — has to go through a breakup in the public eye.
JoJo was more or less outed by accident in early January, as fans could no longer ignore the clues.
(Of course, she’d been setting off people’s gaydar for a while, but that’s a far cry from actually coming out)
It’s possible that, if she had to do it all over again, she would have kept her romance with Kylie private.
But perhaps not. JoJo has yet to actually speak about this to the world, directly, though of course she knew that it would come out.
Regardless, we are so happy that she came out earlier this year. We wish her well as she moves on.

The 30th season of Dancing with the Stars featured a professional wrestler, a recent Bachelor, a spoiled cheater and liar and many other semi-famous contestant.

The season premiere is just a few days away.
The 18-year-old entertainer also has an upcoming tour.
Unfortunately, Nickelodeon is restricting which songs she can perform … and JoJo is calling them out.
The devil works hard but JoJo Siwa works harder.
In January, JoJo’s 37-city DREAM tour begins.
That is a lot of work and it’s very exciting … but JoJo’s promotion is a bit bittersweet.
“I go out on tour in January,” JoJo tweeted this week, as you can see in the screenshot below.
“My movie musical was just released,” she teased.
JoJo noted that this musical film is one “(with 6 new original songs)…”
“Nickelodeon told me today that I’m not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into my show,” JoJo revealed.
“These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing,” she emphasized.
JoJo then asked her fans and followers: “Does this seem fair???”
“There is no reason that this music should not be included,” JoJo pointed out in a subsequent tweet.
“Working for a company as a real human,” she wrote, “being treated as only a brand is fun until it’s not.”
That is very well said.
Many of us are fans of Nickelodeon — from our own childhoods, from our children’s enjoyment, or both.
We can acknowledge that even the most positive massive companies are still complex mechanisms that exist to make money.
Nickelodeon is more than just green slime and an endless milking of Spongebob Squarepants for more content.
Since Nickelodeon did not immediately offer a public comment or an explanation, we can only speculate.
It is possible that there is an ownership or marketing aspect to this that might make sense.
It’s not nice, but there could be a reasonable explanation.
For example, if JoJo’s tour is linked to Nickelodeon, but her new songs are not, that might clash with the tour.
It’s all the same to JoJo, but to Nickelodeon, it might feel like promoting someone else’s product.
As for the marketing angle, it may be that Nickelodeon has already locked in promotional plans that do not include new music.
Whatever the reasons, it still obviously sucks from JoJo’s perspective.
It’s also a blow to her fans.
JoJo is an 18-year-old superstar who sells out stadiums wherever she performs. They want all that she has to offer.
Meanwhile, fans from a larger age range can look forward to seeing JoJo on Dancing With The Stars.
She will actually be the first dancer paired with another dancer of the same gender.
JoJo shared that she was presented with a choice, and immediately knew that she wanted to dance with another woman.
While the dance competition is not romantic, JoJo did come out as gay earlier this year.
After a number of strong hints dropped on social media, she decided to come out — to widespread celebration.
She has spoken openly and affectionately of her relationship with girlfriend Kylie Prew.

Early this year, JoJo Siwa came out as gay to widespread celebration.
Now, the sensational teen entertainer is crossing another milestone.
JoJo will be part of the thirtieth cycle of Dancing With The Stars.
And she will be making history — paired with another woman as her dance partner.
On Thursday, August 26, JoJo Siwa took to social media to reveal the exciting news.
Though Dancing With The Stars has crossed barriers since its 2005 premiere, this will be the series’ first pair of same-sex dancers.
She gushes excited in a video shared to social media, which we have included.
The 18-year-old entertainer also spoke to USA Today.
“We’re making history,” JoJo noted.
“This has never happened on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ before,” she explained. “It’s always been a boy-girl couple.”
“I thought that if I chose to dance with a girl on this show, it would break the stereotypical thing,” JoJo added.
“It would be new, different, and change for the better,” she affirmed.
And production was totally onboard.
JoJo explained that the producers actually presented her with the option, and she jumped at the chance.
She recalled: “I said I actually would love and prefer to dance with a girl.”
That said, we do not yet know who her dance partner will be.
JoJo noted that there will of course be some stylistic questions.
Which of them will lead? What costumes will they each wear?
“Does one of us dress super feminine?” JoJo asked. “There are so many crossroads.”
“Which route to we want to go?” JoJo mused. “It’s going to be so fun.”
Sadly, as much as so many would like to pretend otherwise, there are still monstrous bigots in our world who will protest.
“There’s going to be people who don’t like it, who think dancing on the show with another girl is wrong or weird,” JoJo grimly acknowledged.
“I don’t need those people in my life,” JoJo affirmed.
“If it’s wrong or weird to you, that’s OK,” she said.
JoJo sagely continued: “because there’s a billion other people who don’t think it’s wrong or weird.”
We still have only limited information about the upcoming season.
However, we do know that one of JoJo’s fellow competitors will be Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Suni Lee.
There will be thirteen other celebrities, but they will not be identified until Wednesday, September 8 on Good Morning America.
As for JoJo and her unnamed dance partner’s upcoming decision, they have a chance to break ground in the minds of viewers.
With that in mind … we all know that actual gay, bi, and pan women, like JoJo herself, are the most qualified to speak on this.
Similarly, we know that JoJo and her dance partner’s comfort will be paramount.
At the same time, we have to recognize that in the minds of many who are straight and cis, same-sex couples somehow feature gender roles even without multiple genders.
The notion that “one is the man” and “one is the woman” in relationships that might not have any men or not have any women is … well, it’s both odd and offensive.
With that in mind, we’d love to see JoJo shake it up. Both dancers could wear ballgowns one night, tuxedos the next. They could take turns leading.

Earlier this year, JoJo Siwa came out as gay, showering her girlfriend with love.
This week, she spoke to Demi Lovato about coming out.
It was a complicated decision as a teenage public figure, and JoJo thought carefully about how and when to do it.
Jojo also revealed the first of the moments that helped her realize that, yep, she is gay.
On Wednesday, July 14, JoJo Siwa was a guest on 4D with Demi Lovato.
Both stars have come out this year — Demi Lovato as nonbinary, and JoJo as gay.
So this was a great platform for Jojo to discuss her journey — and her girlfriend, Kylie Prew.
“I’ve been figuring out my ‘gay awakenings’ recently,” JoJo shared.
With the exception of many on the asexual spectrum, most people have an “awakening” at some point in their lives, often in childhood or their teens.
For gay people, many assumed that they were straight until they go oh, THIS is what attraction feels like.
“I think I realized that my very first gay awakening was Jenna Dewan’s performance on Lip Sync Battle,” JoJo admitted.
“I think that was one of them,” she added.
Suffice it to say that many, many women took note of that exact same dance.
“Yesterday I was talking to my girlfriend, Kylie, about our gay awakenings,” Jojo shared.
“And,” she told Demi, “she said she went to your concert and it was that concert.”
JoJo detailed: “she would have probably had to have been 12, maybe, or 13, and she was there with her mom.”
JoJo also spoke about her courageous decision to come out as a famous teenager.
“The only thing that held me back from telling the world right away was my girlfriend’s family and my girlfriend,” she shared.
JoJo explained that this was “because I wanted to make sure that she was ready.”
“You always know,” JoJo characterized. “I always knew with me.”
“But,” she added, “I always said I’m not going to do anything with it.”
JoJo continued: “Or be like, ‘Hey, by the way, I’m gay, but I’m not in love with a girl yet. But I’m gay and I know that.'”
“I was always just like, ‘I’ll wait until I actually have a girlfriend or I have a girl that I’m in love with and then I’ll do something with it,'” JoJo reasoned.
“And then that happened,” she summarized.
JoJo noted that she and her bestfriend-turned-girlfriend took their time.
Of course, she noted, it was people on social media who realized that she was gay before she was fully ready to come out.
Many people suspected for many months that she might be gay or bi.
But JoJo realized that people online knew what was up after she did a TikTok with the LGBT collective at Pride House.
“When I fell in love with her, I was like ‘You know the world you’re jumping into right?'” JoJo recalled.
“‘She was like, ‘I know, I know,'” she shared.
“She was my best friend for a year,” JoJo noted, “she knew what it was like.”
“I made sure until she was ready, her family was ready,” she recalled.
“Everyone around us was fully ready for the world to know,” JoJo affirmed.
“The internet kind of outed me for me,” she noted, “and all I had to do was confirm it.”
“What happened was I did a TikTok with these TikTokers and they kind of outed me,” JoJo explained.
She described: “They were like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so bad. We don’t want people thinking this about you.'”
JoJo recalled: “And I was like, ‘Well truthfully, I don’t mind it because it’s true.'”
“They were like yes welcome,” JoJo dished.
“It kinda just happened. … I’m so proud and so happy,” she gushed.
JoJo then affirmed: “I share everything with the world.”
