The former NFL star was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, gun possession, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and violation of implied consent law Thursday night.
Despite suffering from a “significant” drug addiction, Liam Payne was allegedly surrounded by young staffers keen to get him back on the road and making money, sources said.
The former One Direction member was reportedly asked to leave the Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt Buenos Aires before he checked into CasaSur Palermo Hotel.
“We drank alcohol,” two 25-year-old women reportedly admitted to prosecutor Marcelo Roma, who is leading Payne’s death investigation.
The former One Direction member and his girlfriend of two years had been in Argentina for about two weeks after initially only planning to visit for five days.
Another hotel guest also came forward and alleged that she was one of the last people to speak with Payne and saw his “disturbing” behavior in the lobby.
“I went over, asked, ‘Are you OK?’ But he just kind of grunted. Then he said, ‘I used to be in a boy band. That’s why I’m so f–ked up,'” the guest claimed.
“Liam’s advance was massive and he didn’t recoup [it],” a source claimed of the One Direction alum, whose public relations team also reportedly resigned.
A guest staying at the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, claimed to have heard a “lot of noise” coming from Payne’s room shortly before his death.
The novel, which was “inspired by true events,” was released months before the One Direction alum’s death at a hotel in Buenos Aires.
The prosecutor’s office said the two women “had been with the musician in his room” at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the “hours prior” to his death.
“I speak to Liam quite often, he’s a good friend of mine. And, wow, I’m shocked, this is obviously the first I’m hearing of it,” Ant Middleton said.
The former One Direction member welcomed Bear in March 2017 with then-girlfriend Cheryl Cole. The former couple broke up the following year.
Payne tragically died after he fell from the balcony of his hotel room and sustained “extremely serious injuries.” He was 31.
