Viewers have all witnessed how Erika Jayne has been extremely defensive in recent years, to the detriment of her own public image.
Season 12 has not seen a major change in that.
While we can all understand that Erika’s life is falling apart and that she is also suffereing from a PR crisis, is victim-blaming the answer?
Because Erika recently suggested that maybe some of the victims were already paid the money that they say that they are owed. No.
Erika Jayne’s life turned upside down, and things haven’t settled — metaphorically in her life, or more literally in the legal sense.
Tom Girardi has been accused of embezzling millions of dollars, stealing money meant for victims of a deadly plane crash.
Despite the innuendo and charged comments from attorneys looking to collect for their clients, there has not been any proof that Erika was aware of the crime, let alone involved.
That has not changed how many have viewed her since the scandal became public, however.
Numerous alleged victims have come forward and said that Tom Girardi and his law firm owe them money that they were never paid.
In a recent episode, Erika made a return trip to Kyle Richards’ house in La Quinta.
There, Erika recalled how over-the-top and emotionally expressive she had been the year before, aggressively going after anyone questioning her.
“When I was here a year ago it was so crushing and I’m so glad that we’ve moved past all of our s–t,” she stated.
“I’d also like to thank you all for accepting me for the wild animal that I was,” she told her castmates.
Erika explained that, at the time, she had felt backed into a corner — not just then, but every day.
Now, though her life is still topsy-turvy, she felt that she had had the chance to catch her breath after a massive transition period.
“For twelve months now I have been dragged through the mud for something that I didn’t do, never happened,” Erika explained.
While that can certainly be draining, does it really explain all of her behavior?
Garcelle could not help but ask Erika a question on many people’s minds:
Why has she not displayed compassion for her ex-husband’s victims?
Erika’s response was so wildly over-the-top that it really sheds light upon her mental state in recent years.
“We are not even sure that there were people who weren’t paid,” Erika claimed.
Viewers were stunned. Very visibly, so was Kyle.
“You’re saying that we don’t know for a fact that these people weren’t paid? These victims?” Kyle asked.
Clearly, she had hoped that she had misunderstood or misheard. She had not.
“That’s right, exactly right,” Erika confirmed.
We all know that sometimes, people involved in a lawsuit on one side or another are not acting in good faith.
However, Garcelle could not help but ask why so many people, who had been through such an ordeal, would fabricate the same story.
“They would just go live their lives,” Garcelle suggested.
“You can alleged anything in a lawsuit Garcelle,” Erika replied.
That is certainly true. Wildly unfounded lawsuits win. Earnest, provable lawsuits are defeated. That’s our justice system.
But for so many people to lodge the same complaint and stick to the story for years … that’s tough for many people to accept. Even if it were true, it would be shocking.
Last month, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast members and fans were weirded out by Sutton Stracke.
As was quipped on social media, Sluttons (Sutton fans) are in a rough place this season, as they watch her get on almost everyone’s bad side.
More recently, Crystal Kung Minkoff hinted at something “dark” that Sutton had said, but refused to specify.
Is Crystal trying to protect Sutton by not revealing it … or doing more damage by holding it back? What’s it all about, anyway?
According to Crystal, Sutton said something very “dark” when they first met.
Garcelle had brought up the possibility (albeit indirectly) that Crystal may have deliberately set up Sutton for their first on-camera interaction.
But Crystal brought up this alleged statement from Sutton as a form of self-defense.
“When you and Sutton had your thing, I felt like no matter what she said — she could’ve said the sky is blue — you were going to say, ‘Are you that girl?’” Garcelle theorized.
She continued: ’cause I just felt like it was a setup,”
This is when Crystal revealed: “There was a lot more said, prior to that, that was very dark.”
The ladies were taken aback, with Erika looking particularly shocked.
Interestingly, Kyle was there during whatever Sutton allegedly said, but seemingly didn’t remember.
Crystal said that this may be because Kyle was drunk at the time. However, she didn’t want to get into the specifics.
A couple of days later, Kyle asked Sutton very directly how things are with her and Crystal.
Sutton thought that things were going fine, so Kyle opened up about Crystal’s hints about a “dark” interaction.
“Well, I wouldn’t say anything horrible,” Sutton insisted. Garcelle told her that, according to Crystal, hearing it might change their dynamic.
Eventually, Crystal was basically forced to address it.
This time, she would only say that Sutton’s comment had been “problematic.”
Kyle, meanwhile, claimed that she remembers the conversation, but didn’t remember anything bad … while Crystal countered that maybe Kyle hadn’t noticed in the way that Garcelle might.
Garcelle wanted to know what it was, but Crystal was unwilling to delve into it.
The one thing that she would specify was that it is “forgivable,” which admittedly does narrow things down slightly.
Kyle worried that they can’t move on until it’s addressed, but Sutton is fine with them moving on without saying anything out loud.
Kyle correctly noted that Crystal’s vagueness is making people assume the worst … though, again, even Sutton doesn’t want specifics.
Meanwhile, Erika suggested that if it’s as bad as Crystal is implying, maybe it shouldn’t be brought up at all.
That is, all things considered, an understandable perspective from Erika at this point in her life.
We don’t know what Crystal is talking about.
It’s still up in the air whether or not Kyle actually remembers it, or if she simply “blanked it out” due to drinking — or privilege — as Crystal claims.
This seems messy and like the sort of thing that will blow up on several people. But, at the same time, we’d rather know the truth.

Now that this season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has begun, Erika Jayne knows that she went too far at times.
She knows that viewers are going to have a lot to say about her behavior.
It turns out that some of it, at least, has an explanation.
Erika admits that she mixed her prescription medications with alcohol, with disastrous and embarrassing results.
Erika Jayne opened up to Us Weekly, sharing that she had no idea that her medications could have such potent interactions.
“Well, look, I’ve been very open and honest,” she began.
Erika confessed: “I mixed alcohol and antidepressants.”
Erika continued: “which I didn’t know that it would make you this drunk and it did.”
“I do not have a problem,” she asserted.
“And,” Erika went on, “lesson learned and we go on.”
Erika warned: “I mean, are you gonna see a moment that, you know, you will probably be like, ‘Is that Erika?’”
She admitted: “And the answer is yeah. I mean, that was me.”
Erika explained: “At that time, it was really difficult because there were moments that I didn’t wanna get out of bed.”
Erika added that these were “more than moments, there were days and you have to do that.”
She then got almost painfully, show-breakingly real.
“And let’s be honest, you know, you’re sitting at these parties and some of these women are kind of boring,” Erika reminded everyone.
“So you have a drink [and then] you have another drink,” Erika said.
“And then you’re like, ‘Where am I?’” she reasoned.
“So, you know, it’s not that I was drinking a lot,” Erika clarified. “It’s just that I was drinking while being medicated.”
Embarrassing though her actions may be, Erika insisted that she does not personally feel “embarrassed” by her on-screen behavior.
“You know, some of my behavior was not great, but it’s also very real,” she pointed out.
“It’s also part of life,” Erika argued, “and I wouldn’t be the first person that this happened to and won’t be the last.”
Erika explained that, just like last season, her mindset was focused on self-preservation as her entire life has been torn apart.
“My mindset was survival, like it was the season before,” she described.
“The season before was a real fallout [and] this season is really trying to pull yourself together and go on,” Erika detailed.
“And, you know, it was tough,” Erika characterized. “But ultimately I’ll get there.”
She stated: “It’s part of the human experience.”
Erika elaborated: “I mean, you can’t go through what I have gone through the previous season and not feel something and not feel great and not want to have a good time.”
“I wanted to have some fun,” Erika explained.
“I wanted to not feel so heavy,” she went on, “and that’s what I did.”
Erika did also concede that she is often “misunderstood.” That seems likely.
