Jed Duggar: Why is He Trying to Distract Fans from the Josh Duggar Trial?

While some have shown up to court, the majority of the Duggar family has seemingly ignored Josh Duggar’s trial.

Many are wisely maintaining radio silence on social media, since they lack the courage or moral clarity to condemn him.

Oddly, Jed Duggar has chosen a different path this week.

He seems to think that if he throws some shiny throwback pics out into the world, followers will just forget that his brother is a monster.

On Monday, December 6, Jed Duggar took to Instagram to share a look back as his engagement.

This dates back to Valentine’s day, making these photos less than a year old.

With that in mind, this seems like an almost random time to offer the throwbacks. Almost.

Jedidiah Duggar iG romantic winter proposal throwback

“Looking back on our romantic winter proposal on Valentine’s Day!” Jed captioned.

He recalled the conditions: “It was -13°F and snowing! She was SO surprised!!”

These days, of course, Jed and Katey are both married and expecting. Life moves as a breakneck pace in the Duggar world.

But this is not the one-year anniversary of Jed’s proposal.

Out of context, this seems like a random week to share such a throwback.

In context, it appears to be a transparent ploy to give fans something to talk about other than his disgraced brother.

“Damage control anyone?” reads one comment.

“Your brother is in court for possession of CSAM,” the commenter pointed out.

“And,” the commenter observed, “all you can do is talk about your engagement as if nothing is happening?”

“Read the room Jed!!!!!” suggested another.

“You’re supporting your sick in the head brother,” the commenter noted, “and a jury is having to listen to the sick things he was watching.”

That commenter continued: “And you’re over here reminiscing about your proposal, good lord.”

Certainly, this seems like the only explanation that makes sense.

Jed might be thinking fondly of his engagement for whatever reason, and that part is normal.

But posting it, this week of all weeks? That feels deliberate, and people are right to be annoyed.

Now, some might argue that this is totally unfair to Jed.

After all, he didn’t choose to be cursed to be born into the Duggar family or to have Josh as a sibling.

Should siblings be held accountable or in any way blamed for another’s crimes?

Usually, no, especially when we’re talking about a younger sibling who is not at all implicated in his brother’s crimes, proven or alleged.

However, Jed is not exactly staying out of this and keeping his head down.

Instead, he has been seen hanging out with his disgraced brother.

On Tuesday, December 7, Jed was spotted at Josh’s ongoing trial.

According to eyewitness reports, Jed walked into the courtroom.

Josh approached him, and the two were described as talking and then laughing.

That is enough to turn anyone’s stomach.

Jed cannot help who his blood relatives are, but he can surely control who he chooses to associate with as an adult.

Going somewhere to hang out and exchange laughs with a disgusting predator during his criminal trial … that sounds like a choice.

Maybe Jed was forced to. Jim Bob does infamously use his wealth to control his adult children.

But was he forced to publicly laugh with his brother?

It seems more likely that this is simply who Jed has chosen to be.

Jill and Jedidiah to Testify at Josh Duggar Trial: Will They Help Convict Their Brother?

There is no end to the horrors of Josh Duggar’s trial.

Between gruesome evidence presented in the courtroom and the man’s sickening history, it’s hard to watch at times.

It must be even harder to testify.

Both Jedidiah and Jill Duggar are on the witness list. Are they there to cover for their disgraced brother, or put him away?

As Josh Duggar’s trial began, the judge read off the witness list.

Arkansas Judge Timothy Brooks included, among others, two very recognizable names:

Jill Dillard and Jedidiah Duggar, two of Josh’s siblings.

Various other Duggars (some by marriage) have appeared in court.

Anna, of course, has been attending her husband’s trial and standing by his side, to the neglect of her children.

On Wednesday, Jill’s husband Derick Dillard was seated in court.

Interestingly, Austin Forsyth was also spotted in the audience, seated near the back.

Eyewitnesses reported him seeming to ignore both his brother-in-law Derick and his sister-in-law, Anna.

Considering that Austin’s wife, Joy-Anna, has come up in such a grim context during this trial, one wonders what was on his mind.

When Josh was a teenager, he molested five young girls (that we know of), four being his own sisters.

Jill was among Josh’s victims, even identified herself as such to the public in 2015.

Alongside Jessa, she was marched out in front of the (Fox News, of course) cameras by Jim Bob to defend their brother.

But a lot has changed in the past six years, especially for Jill.

She has stepped further away from Jim Bob and the cult than any of her siblings.

It’s not just about wearing pants or getting a nose piercing or dyeing her hair blonde, either.

Jill Duggar IG blonde hair with caption

Jill’s husband has directly called out Jim Bob on his shady behavior, especially his dishonesty when it comes to finances.

The couple also plans to enroll their children in public schools, exposing them to the real world instead of cult-approved homeschooling.

There has been real blowback, including Jill being banned from the main Duggar house unless Jim Bob is present.

Derick also shared a couple of years ago that Jill is now in therapy.

Therapy — not religious counseling, not “treatment” that just involves prayer and manual labor — is antithetical to the Duggar cult’s way of doing things.

It could help Jill process the sexual abuse, as well as the physical, emotional, and mental abuse from growing up in that toxic household.

All of this together does not necessarily look like the backstory of someone who is willing to go to bat for a predator.

In 2015, many felt that Josh’s victims did not have a choice when it came to how to frame their feelings on their brother.

Their cult weaponizes ideas like grace and forgiveness, and also considered the exposure of Josh’s crimes in 2015 to be an “attack” by the devil himself.

In other words, to do anything but defend their brother would have been to side with Satan in a spiritual attack.

That sounds unhinged, but you have to remember that they were raised in a fundamentalist cult.

To them, they’re not an extreme group of Christians in a country that is 70% Christian — they see themselves as a tiny minority of “true” Christians in an evil world.

But as we said, a lot has changed for Jill since that time.

Very soon, perhaps mere hours after the publishing of this article, we may learn what Jill has to say six years later.

Sporting her new blonde locks, she could find herself even more on the outs with her extended family — but on the right side of history. Or not.

As for Jedidiah, he married Katey very abruptly just about eight months ago.

Recently, Jed and Katey fled Arkansas as if hoping to avoid the media firestorm and the stigma of Josh’s trial.

But if you’re called as a witness, that’s it — no state line will keep you from being asked to speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but.

It is possible that Jed is there to lend a voice of support for his brother.

Not all of the Duggars want to see him rot behind bars. In fact, some don’t even see him as a disgrace.

For reasons known only to her, Justin’s wife Claire Spivey was seen actually speaking to Josh. Our stomachs turn at the thought.

Where Do the Duggars Live? Inside Anna’s Warehouse on the Compound

Where do the Duggars – specifically Josh – live?

It’s a frequently asked question, especially lately.

For many fans of the famous family, the Duggar homestead is a familiar sight, dating back to simpler, less controversial times.

Jim Bob and Michelle built a 7,000-square foot Arkansas pad with the proceeds from their first TLC specials way back in the day.

Many years, kids and scandals later, the house serves as the setting for two reality shows – and some large family gatherings.

Of course, much of the younger Duggar generation has grown up and moved out … some more successfully than others.

Before he got nabbed by the feds, Josh Duggar’s living arrangement in particular had been the subject of much debate.

His accomodations, along with wife Anna and their many children, were not what you’d expect given his parents’ wealth.

The confines of the main house have also been under renewed scrutiny, given that it’s where Josh’s first scandal arose.

Below, we go inside the compound and the modest digs where the 33-year-old spent (possibly) his last days as a free man.

1. The Compound

Every Counting On fan is familiar with the massive Tontitown property known as the Duggar compound. But these days, several of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids have left the nest to establish homes of their own.

2. The Beginning …

Dh 17
The Duggars’ story begins here, in this much more modest home in nearby Springdale, Arkansas. Not the kind of place in which you would want to raise 19 kids.

3. A Humble Start

When the Duggars made their TV debut on Discovery Health, the network helped them with construction costs for their new home in Tontitown. Execs also filled up the family’s pantry, something Jim Bob and Michelle had difficulty doing in those days.

4. The Living Room

Dh 16
The Duggars love the great outdoors (especially their big backyard) but when they’re inside the compound, this sprawling living room – with its sky-high ceilings – serves as the site of more Counting On scenes than any other.

5. The Master Bedroom

Dh 15
And this – as they used to say on MTV’s Cribs – is where the magic happens. Jim Bob and Michelle’s bedroom has been the site of an awful lot of baby-making.

6. The Master Bath

And this is the bathroom off of Jim Bob and Michelle’s room. We’re guessing this was roughly the size of the living room in their first house.

Jed Duggar-Katey Nakatsu Wedding: Why Was It Kept a Secret?

As you’ve probably heard by now, Jed Duggar and Katey Nakatsu got married over the weekend.

The ceremony was a little different from the usual Duggar wedding in a number of significant ways.

For one thing, several guests attended virtually due to Covid protocols.

But the biggest difference between Jed and Katey’s ceremony and the many Duggar weddings that came before it was the fact that for some reason, Jed and Katey decided to keep theirs a secret.

Now, don’t get us wrong — there’s always a degree of secrecy in the planning of a Duggar wedding.

For example, the date and venue are often kept under wraps in order to prevent gate-crashing from obsessive fans.

But Jed and Katey took the whole privacy thing to a bizarre extreme.

Fans were expecting the wedding, but only because they’d pieced together the facts from leaked video and tabloid reports.

Jed and Katey never even announced their courtship to the public, much less their engagement.

In fact, prior to the wedding announcement that Jed posted on Saturday, these two had never publicly acknowledged one another in any way!

“For a long time, I have prayed for my future spouse, not knowing who that person would be,” Jed wrote in the caption to the pic he shared over the weekend.

“God answered my prayers far beyond what I could have ever imagined in Katey! We have enjoyed quietly developing our relationship over the past year, and every moment together has been amazing!” he continued.

“I’m so grateful God brought Katey into my life and excited to share with you all that today she became my wife!”

In a statement on their own Instagram page, Jed’s parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, echoed his excitement.

“We are overjoyed about adding another daughter-in-love to our family!!” they wrote, adding:

“Jed and Katey have enjoyed a quiet, low-key relationship that has allowed them to prepare for a beautiful life together.”

While some Duggar obsessives had figured out the wedding date through online sleuthing, others were completely caught off guard by the whole situation.

“Um, excuse me?! when the heck did this happen?!” one person wrote.

“Woah, when did this happen?! I didn’t even know they were courting!” another added.

“OMG!!! How exciting. I had no idea you were even courting someone. big congrats,” a third chimed in.

Others praised the couple for their astonishing ability to keep the whole thing relatively private.

“I am absolutely in love with the idea that you did this all private,” one person commented.

“So happy for you guys and the way that you were able to keep this journey as a couple private,” another added.

Of course, there was a third group who found the whole Jed and Katey situation highly suspicious, and they were more than happy to say so.

“Why didn’t your vows say how much you loved her?” one person questioned, adding the hashtag, “#arrangedmarriage.”

Yes, it seems the most popular theory on Instagram is that Jim Bob and Katey’s father, Kory Nakatsu, arranged the marriage with minimal input from the young folk, thus eliminating the need for a lengthy courtship.

“Because this one was arranged,” one person wrote when a different fan asked about the need for such secrecy.

“Can you say arranged?! Seriously!?” another asked.

Of course, that wasn’t the only theory as to why this all happened so quickly.

“So wonder when the baby will be born. Probably a couple months ‘early’ is my guess,” one person offered.

“Happy for them but they will have a pregnancy announcement soon,” another chimed in.

There are other theories, as well, with some saying that Jim Bob objected to the match because Katey’s parents are divorced and others claiming that Jed’s political career is somehow involved.

Frankly, we may never know the whole truth.

But that won’t stop us from offering out congrats to the happy couple!
