Jessa Duggar Marks Seven-Year Anniversary with Ben Seewald on Sweet Coffee Date

Last week, Jessa Duggar showed off the cutest photo of baby Fern.

Now is an awkward time for the Duggar family to be active on social media.

However, Jessa clearly wants to keep her fans and followers updated.

This week, that means sharing a major milestone: her seven-year wedding anniversary.

Seven years ago, Jessa Duggar became Jessa Seewald.

On Monday, November 1, the 28-year-old Duggar daughter took to Instagram to mark the occassion.

Her post took the form of a gushing tribute to her husband, Ben Seewald.

“Anniversary date with my most favorite person in the whole wide world!” Jessa raved.

She added: “Happy 7 years, Love!”

In case there was any confusion, Jessa included a tag for her husband, writing: “@ben_seewald.”

Jessa shared photos of her 26-year-old husband on an anniversary date with her at Onyx Coffee.

Their youngest baby, Fern, was also featured.

Jessa also shared in her Instagram Stories that the two were being proactive by doing some early Christmas shopping.

The Duggar family does not always participate in mainstream holidays because they deliberately distance themselves from society.

Though some Duggars now celebrate Halloween, they certainly did not grow up doing so.

However, Christmas in their household was as close to normal as anything can be in a fundamentalist cult.

Traditionally, the Duggar children participate in a gift exchange — a bit like a “secret santa” among coworkers.

Obviously, they would not frame it like this — their interpretation of Christmas is far removed from Coca-Cola commercials.

Additionally, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar would also give each child a gift.

So it’s not quite like a normal family would celebrate, but it’s close enough for the sake of appearances.

That concept had defined much of the lives of the Duggars, not just of Jim Bob and Michelle but of their children, too.

Not all of the Duggar offspring have managed to seem palatable, however.

When Josh Duggar was arrested this spring, most of the family went totally silent on social media.

A few couples put out vague, often tone deaf statements that managed to say nothing yet still rub people the wrong way.

(The topic of photos and videos of childhood sexual abuse is not an excuse to rail against the unrelated topic of pornography, folks)

But Jessa and Ben still want to keep their followers up to date.

Fern is their fourth child, and was born in July.

The timing was not auspicious, both because of Josh’s arrest and, relatedly, because TLC finally canceled Counting On.

Jessa and Ben have enjoyed showing off her parents’ twenty-first grandbaby.

However, they had to know that sharing this side of their lives on social media will open them up to questions.

Josh’s trial date begins later this month. It is not a topic that anyone can ignore, try as they might.

It is entirely possible that the Duggar family will again go radio silent, in whole or in part, after Josh’s trial begins, or especially after the verdict.

That said, we would not be prepared if they have already prepared statements in the event of a conviction, acquittal, or mistrial.

In the mean time, fans who just want to see the innocent babies and not think about the dark crimes of the adults will enjoy the posts while they last.

Jessa Duggar Celebrates Daughter Fern’s 1-Month Birthday: Finally, Some Good News!

Love ’em or hate ’em there’s no denying that it’s been a pretty hellish year for the members of the Duggar family.

Obviously, their most cataclysmic event in recent months was Josh Duggar’s arrest on child pornography charges.

But that shocking occurrence turned out to be only the first domino in a long line of misfortunes for the formerly beloved Counting On clan.

Many of Jim Bob and Michelle’s offspring have decided to distance themselves from their problematic parents, but amazingly, one of their daughters has managed to find happiness while still maintaining contact with her increasingly troubled family.

Just a few weeks ago, Jessa welcomed her fourth child — a girl named Fern.

(Clearly, she decided to stick with the botanical theme she began with Fern’s older sister, Ivy.)

Little Fern celebrated the completion of her first month on earth on Wednesday, and her parents marked the occasion by posting an adorable video on Instagram.

“Fern turned 1 month old today, and over the past week, we’ve seen those adorable social skills blossoming!” Jessa captioned the post, as first reported by People magazine.

“She loves to make eye contact and smile responsively when you talk to her! It’s the sweetest thing!”

The Seewalds announced the joyous news about their new arrival in early 2021.

The news was particularly welcome, as Jessa had suffered a miscarriage just months earlier, an event that reportedly left her inconsolable and deeply depressed.

“After the heartbreaking loss of a baby last year, we’re overjoyed to share that another little Seewald is on the way,” the Seewalds wrote on Instagram at the time.

“The pregnancy is going smoothly, and both baby and Jessa are doing well. We are so grateful to God for the precious gift of a new life!” they continued.

“The kids are delighted, and we can hardly wait to welcome this little one into our arms this summer.”

Just as expected, Fern entered the world in July, brightening up what has otherwise been a very bleak summer for Jessa’s famous family.

The Josh situation led TLC to cancel Counting On, leaving both Jessa and Ben jobless and facing an uncertain financial future.

Meanwhile, at least one of Jessa’s siblings — older sister Jill Duggar — has completely cut ties with her parents, meaning that she has little contact with the rest of the family.

(Family gatherings have traditionally taken place at the appropriately-named “big house” owned by Jim Bob and Michelle. Jill and husband Derick Dillard say they’re no longer welcome there.)

But we’re sure Jessa, Ben, and their four children are making the most of these uncertain times.

While this current scandal might be one of the greatest tests she’s ever faced, Jessa is nothing if not resilient.

And no matter what happens, she’ll have her devoted husband and her children by her side.

The months ahead are sure to bring a lot of negative press and a lot of ugly rumors as Josh’s trial gets underway — but if anyone is equipped to handle the pressure, it’s the Seewalds.

Derick Dillard: I Had to Fill Out 423-Question Application Before Jim Bob Would Let Me Court Jill!

One of the most heavily-scrutinized aspects of life in the Duggar clan is the courtship process by which young people find suitable spouses.

Casual dating, premarital sex, and divorce are all forbidden in the Duggars’ world, so there’s a lot riding on every courtship.

Despite all that, the process moves fast — very fast.

Often, Duggars get engaged just a few weeks after they begin courting, and they’re married a few weeks after that.

So perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the family has its mate selection protocol down to a science.

Believe it or not, the process involves a written application that’s designed by Jim Bob to help weed out the losers and ensure that his grandkids are bred from only the best stock.

We sincerely wish we were joking/

As you might expect, the whole thing is intensely creepy.

Check out some of the more bizarre highlights from the list of 423 questions (!!!) that are presented to potential Duggar suitors.

It’s believed that both male and female courtship partners are forced to fill out the questionnaire, and of course, the responses are reviewed by the all-powerful shot-caller himself, James Robert Duggar.

Somehow, this family keeps getting weirder by the day.

1. Derick Spills the Tea

As you’re probably aware, Derick Dillard has been feuding with Jim Bob Duggar for quite some time now. It’s a messy situation, but on the bright side, it’s yielded some interesting revelations about life in the Duggar clan.

2. Going Back to the Archives

Of course, as some fans recently realized, Derick has been taking shots at Jim Bob for quite some time now. Take, for example, the Counting On episode in which Dillard spoke out about the infamous Courtship Questionnaire.

3. Bonding Brothers-In-Law

Jinger duggar and jeremy vuolo in 2021
At the time that the episode was filmed, Jeremy Vuolo was still courting Jinger Duggar, and Derick shocked him with an unexpected question.

4. Truth or Der

Derick asked Jeremy if he had been “drill[ed]” on his “financial situation” by Jim Bob, adding that such questions can be found “on the 45-page application,” he said. “Page 27, section B, line four.”

5. Jim Bob In the Middle

It might sound like Der and Jer were just having a laugh at Jim Bob’s expense, but it turns out the application is not only real — it’s also much longer than they described.

6. Does the Fun Ever Start!

Around that time, there was a disagreement about the length of the application. Jessa Duggar claimed it’s only 30 pages, while Jeremy said that he “got sent a 50-page questionnaire.” It turns out, the current model clocks in at 423 questions — and we have all the highlights below!

Jessa Duggar: I’m Finally a Minister’s Wife!

Well, it looks like this is a very big week for Jessa Duggar.

Not only did her chronically-unemployed husband, Ben Seewald, finally get a job, he chose one of the few professions that Jim Bob Duggar actually approves of!

Yes, on Monday, it was revealed that Jessa is now the wife of an ordained minister.

A Duggar fan page shared the above photo on Instagram on Monday.

The pic was captioned, “Ben has been ordained as a Pastor,” and it was reportedly taken at a celebration party following his final commitment ceremony.

No one is wearing a mask, but that’s not much of a shock

We’ve known for quite some time that most of the Duggars think the coronavirus is a hoax.

Neither Jessa nor Ben has commented on the news, so we don’t know exactly when Ben was ordained or what the process of becoming a minister entailed.

But we certainly know what religion he’s ordained in.

The Duggars are Independent Baptists, and you can be sure Jim Bob wouldn’t tolerate his son-in-law becoming ordained in any other faith.

We wish we could tell you more about what Independent Baptists believe, but they’re a secretive bunch.

The “independent” refers to their refusal to affiliate themselves with any other Baptist denomination.

And in addition to attending church services each week, the Duggars engage in weekly “private worship” sessions.

What goes on there? Nobody knows.

But it’s a safe bet that there’s a good reason that what’s discussed in these sessions remains a secret.

After all, the Duggar beliefs that we know about are appalling.

We can only imagine about the stuff they feel the need to hide from the public.

Those who are familiar with his past say that Ben’s family isn’t quite as conservative as the Duggars (is anyone?).

But Jim Bob doesn’t tolerate much in the way of dissent, so you can be sure that Ben has adopted many of the Duggars’ beliefs and customs.

In addition to being Independent Baptists, the Duggars are adherents of the Quiverfull movement, which was founded by disgraced former pastor — and Jim Bob mentor — Bob Gothard.

Before he was forced to step down amid sexual harassment allegations, Gothard — yes, that’s really his name — came up with the idea that it’s the duty of all Christians to have as many children as possible.

Clearly, Jim Bob fell in love with the idea, and the rest — as they say — is history.

Fortunately, Ben seems to be slightly more sane than Jim Bob, and at somewhat less obsessed with procreation.

And we’re guessing he’ll be a better pastor than Gothard.

Hell, he would pretty much have to be.

Anyway, our congratulations go out to the Seewalds.

We have no idea what sort of ideas he’ll be spreading, but at least Ben isn’t unemployed anymore!

Duggar Family Rules: How Are These Still a Thing in 2020??

The Duggar family’s unusual dating (sorry, courting) rules were well documented long before they were embroiled in scandal.

Ever since Josh Duggar’s child molestation history – and brazen adultery – was exposed, they’ve all been under a microscope.

Yet, despite his hypocrisy, and the fact that their every move is under heavier scrutiny than ever, they weather every storm.

TLC axed 19 Kids & Counting, only to quickly come back with Counting On, featuring the same Duggars and their beliefs.

Well, sans the radioactive Josh. And now Derick.

Josh was a bridge too far for even the hard core believers to stomach seeing on TV any longer, but the fan base remains.

The Duggars themselves are similarly loyal to their beliefs. When it comes to the Arkansas family’s values, they stand firm.

Their belief system certainly requires conviction in order to practice, since the list of policies for love and life is not short.

Despite Joy bailing, Jinger’s new life in L.A., Derick’s sex on the brain and Jana’s girlfriend (supposedly), the rules remain.

Here are the most bizarre things they don’t allow …

1. Girl-on-Girl Romance

Laura demasie jana duggar photo
Needless to say, the Duggars believe in traditional “family values” a.k.a. that homophobia is a sin. Rumors of Jana Duggar’s sexuality have circulated for years, with an insider telling The Hollywood Gossip that she was in love with her best friend Laura DeMasie. There’s been no official confirmation of this, but Jim Bob was reportedly so upset by how close they were that he arranged for her to get a job and move to Atlanta, far from the compound where Jana remains single at age 30. In a family where 20 is the usual courting age, her lack of courtships stands out even more.

2. Dates Without Chaperones

Duggar daughters
The Duggar parents don’t just stand by their beliefs on relationships … they’ll stand literally next to their kids during their relationships. The parents will often accompany the kids on dates in order to maintain “accountability” and “keep things from going in the wrong direction,” per Jim Bob. The girls are fine with this, as being alone with men puts them in grave “moral danger.” When the parents aren’t available, their older siblings will often tag along, making every date a group date and a family affair.

3. Non-Group Texts

Jessa duggar and ben seewald engagement
Even in the kids’ late teens and early 20s, mom and dad are creeping on their text messages. When Ben Seewald jokingly wrote to fiancee Jessa, “Give me a ring,” Jim Bob actually jumped in on the group text, writing “No ring yet.” With a smiley face emoticon. Seriously, he did that. Whatever you think of him, Jim Bob needs his own Instagram so he can start posting screen shots of this stuff.

4. Hugs on the Chest

Derick and jill dillard pregnant
This moment you see here between Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard would not have been permitted until the couple was married. Side hugs are the preferred method of PDA in order to prevent any further temptation or “hanky panky,” as has been well documented on 19 Kids and Counting. The Duggars love their side hugs so hard … though not too too hard, lest they lead to full-frontal hugging and the raging hormones that accompany such rampant chest-on-chest action. We’re getting riled up just thinking about it. And any touching beyond that? Save it for your wedding night.

5. Riding in Cars Together

Kendra caldwell joseph duggar
It’s no secret that the Duggars have strict dating rules. We’ve talked about some already and there are plenty more to come on this list. But one of the most bizarre was revealed only recently in an episode in which Joseph and Kendra Caldwell officially started courting. They were seen in a car, driving together … with one of the younger Duggar sitting in between them in the front seat of a pickup truck. Shortly after the courtship “proposal,” she was allowed to slide almost all the way over to Joseph. Not close enough for any inappropriate touching, obviously, but without another dude in between, which is mandatory during the “just friends” phase. Wow.

6. Co-Ed Hide and Seek

Duggars
In the wake of the Josh Duggar molestation scandal going public years later, Jim Bob and Michelle gave in interview in which they talked about all of the things they did in its aftermath. In between blaming Josh’s indiscretions on being a curious pubescent boy, they discussed family rules that resulted from this, such as the children no longer being allowed to play co-ed hide and seek. That’s right, no two children regardless of age are allowed to go off alone, even in the context of this childhood pastime. How much that really helps the situation they were responding to remains to be seen.
