Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard: TLC Can’t Silence Us Any Longer!

Late last month, TLC finally canceled Counting On after 11 disgraceful seasons.

Several years ago, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard stepped away from the series.

It turns out that they learned about the show ending the same way as the rest of us did.

Now, they are making their statement, reflecting upon the secrets, pressures, and challenges from their years on the show.

Jill Duggar and her husband, Derick Dillard, are playing catchup.

“Our statement about the cancellation of Counting On is a little late,” they admit in a blog post on their website.

The Dillards explain that this is “because we just learned the news with the rest of the world last Tuesday.”

Additionally, they share that “this season of life is quite busy for us.”

“We first heard of the cancellation when both a friend & a cousin each texted us,” they revealed.

This friend and this cousin messaged them “after seeing TLC’s statement online.”

“We do not know how long the cancellation had been planned,” Jill and Derick admit.

“It’s been over 4 years now since we chose to step away from the show,” they note.

Hard to believe that it’s been four years already, but that sounds right.

“And,” the couple writes, “although we were initially barred from sharing our decision to leave the show.”

They continue by noting that “we have opened up a little more recently on our social media.”

They certainly have; this has often taken the form of well-deserved callouts of Jim Bob.

“During our years on the show, we had many great experiences with the network,” Jill and Derick reflected.

“And,” they added, “several of the crew members have even become like family to us!”

This is a common way for reality stars to feel after filming for so many hours with the same people.

“However, we also faced many pressures,” the Dillards acknowledge.

“And,” they added, “some unexpected challenges.”

It was these pressures and challenges “which forced us to step away from the show.”

Their departure from the series was “in an effort to gain more control over our own lives.”

“And,” they emphasized, “to do what was best for our family.”

“The pursuit of freedom and authenticity has been a growing theme in our lives,” the Dillards wrote.

“Our story is still being written, and this event is just one more step forward toward that goal,” Jill and Derick characterized.

“Our family’s departure from 19 Kids & Counting and Counting On has allowed us to make our own decisions,” they reflected.

Jill and Derick wrote that this is “including the ability to have a choice in what we share.”

“For now, we will move forward on our own terms,” the Dillards affirmed.

“And,” their statement concluded, “we look forward to whatever opportunities the future holds.”

Their words about fond memories regarding crew members from the erstwhile series were sincere.

On Tuesday, Jill took to her Instagram Story and shared a group photo.

Jill, Jessa, Ben, their children, and a few crew members all appeared together in the snapshot.

“Loved getting to do lunch with some of our old crew family today!” Jill wrote. “These guys are some of the best! Love y’all!”

Duggar Family: How Their Bizarre Religious Beliefs Created a Monster Like Josh

If you’re familiar with the Duggars, then you’re no doubt aware that the Counting On clan is a lightning rod for controversy.

Jim Bob and Michelle are almost as well-known for their ultra-strict religious beliefs as for the massive size of their brood.

However, you may not be familiar with the specifics of the Duggars’ controversial belief system.

The enormity of the family and the particulars of its members’ worldview are not unrelated, of course.

The Duggars belong to a controversial non-denominational organization that encourages its followers to have as many children as physically possible.

But the bizarre and often dangerous teachings of the Quiverfull movement don’t stop there.

In recent weeks, many fans have wondered how such a devout family could have sheltered a predator as monstrous as Josh.

Of course, there’s no easy answer to that question, but as with everything else in the Duggars’ lives, religion played a key role in the making of the repeat sex offender who has become Jim Bob’s greatest shame.

In the gallery below, we’ll explore the Duggars’ most deeply-held convictions as well as the ways in which they were contorted into justifications for enabling Josh.

Even if you count yourself among the diehard Duggar faithful, you may be surprised to learn exactly what drives reality TV’s most controversial family.

1. Will Justice Finally Be Done?

Josh duggar mug shot
Obviously, Jim Bob and Michelle are not 100 percent responsible for Josh’s perversions, but they are responsible for helping him evade prosecution, and thus, continue to prey on the innocent.

2. An Experiment Gone Wrong

Josh duggar and fam
And in all likelihood, the couple’s bizarre views on sex and relationships — which they of course passed on to their children — were central to the formation of their eldest son’s deeply-damaged psyche.

3. The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From the Tree

Josh duggar and his wife
Whatever the case, the Duggars taught Josh from a young age that men can essentially do whatever they want in their relations with women. One of the strongest ways in which they sent this message was through their continued support of a religious guru who has been accused of all manner of sexual misconduct.

4. A Quiverfull of Duggars

The duggars in 2004
Many of the Duggars’ beliefs derive from the teachings of Bill Gothard, a disgraced and highly controversial minister who teaches, among other things, that it is the duty of all Christians to marry young produce as many offspring as possible.

5. Guru of the Duggars

Bill gothard
To say that Gothard, founder of the Quiverfull movement and the affiliated Advanced Training Institute, is a controversial figure would be a massive understatement. The 86-year-old is currently in hiding following a number of high-profile sexual assault allegations.

6. The IBLP: Condoning Abuse Since 1961

The first of Gothard’s many off-shoot organizations (like any conman worth his salt, Gothard knows when it’s time to abandon one shadowy venture for the next), the Institute in Basic Life Principles was founded in 1961 as a tax-exempt umbrella conglomerate for several ministries.

Where Do the Duggars Live? Inside Anna’s Warehouse on the Compound

Where do the Duggars – specifically Josh – live?

It’s a frequently asked question, especially lately.

For many fans of the famous family, the Duggar homestead is a familiar sight, dating back to simpler, less controversial times.

Jim Bob and Michelle built a 7,000-square foot Arkansas pad with the proceeds from their first TLC specials way back in the day.

Many years, kids and scandals later, the house serves as the setting for two reality shows – and some large family gatherings.

Of course, much of the younger Duggar generation has grown up and moved out … some more successfully than others.

Before he got nabbed by the feds, Josh Duggar’s living arrangement in particular had been the subject of much debate.

His accomodations, along with wife Anna and their many children, were not what you’d expect given his parents’ wealth.

The confines of the main house have also been under renewed scrutiny, given that it’s where Josh’s first scandal arose.

Below, we go inside the compound and the modest digs where the 33-year-old spent (possibly) his last days as a free man.

1. The Compound

Dh 1
Every Counting On fan is familiar with the massive Tontitown property known as the Duggar compound. But these days, several of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids have left the nest to establish homes of their own.

2. The Beginning …

Dh 17
The Duggars’ story begins here, in this much more modest home in nearby Springdale, Arkansas. Not the kind of place in which you would want to raise 19 kids.

3. A Humble Start

The duggars in 2004
When the Duggars made their TV debut on Discovery Health, the network helped them with construction costs for their new home in Tontitown. Execs also filled up the family’s pantry, something Jim Bob and Michelle had difficulty doing in those days.

4. The Living Room

Dh 16
The Duggars love the great outdoors (especially their big backyard) but when they’re inside the compound, this sprawling living room – with its sky-high ceilings – serves as the site of more Counting On scenes than any other.

5. The Master Bedroom

Dh 15
And this – as they used to say on MTV’s Cribs – is where the magic happens. Jim Bob and Michelle’s bedroom has been the site of an awful lot of baby-making.

6. The Master Bath

And this is the bathroom off of Jim Bob and Michelle’s room. We’re guessing this was roughly the size of the living room in their first house.

Explore the Duggars’ Homes: From Palatial Estates to Federal Prison Cells!

Where do the Duggars live? For many fans of the famous and controversial TLC family, the Duggar homestead is a familiar sight.

Jim Bob and Michelle built a 7,000-square foot Arkansas pad with the proceeds from their first TLC specials way back in the day.

Thirteen years and three more kids later, the house serves as the setting for two reality shows – and some very large family gatherings.

Of course, 13 years is a long time.

Much of the younger Duggar generation has grown up and moved into homes of their own.

Some of the adult Duggars are just starting out – while some are already living the good life on some very enviable property.

Others … er, well, not so much.

Sit tight, we’ll get to that shortly.

The folks at celebrity gossip magazine In Touch took a look at all of the Duggar homes, and the findings were surprising.

So where do the Duggars live?

Well, we think it’s safe to say you’ll be surprised by some of these accomodations.

From a palatial estate to pre-trial temporary accomodations with family friends, the Duggars are all over the map!

Jill Duggar: I’m Not Ready to Talk About Josh Being Arrested

Disgraced reality star Josh Duggar was arrested and is currently behind bars where he belongs.

His parents, unable to cover up his crimes this time, have released a shaky public statement.

But Jill, though one of Josh’s sisters and earlier victims, is no longer a direct member of the cult.

That means that she is free to respond to this news in her own way.

Josh has been arrested and indicted for receiving child pornography.

According to authorities, he downloaded material depicting the sexual abuse of children under the age of 12.

Josh is accused of having done so in May of 2019.

He was arrested on Thursday, April 29, and appeared in court on Friday, April 30, via video conference.

There, he entered a plea of not guilty on the charges of receiving and possessing child porn.

Each charge could carry a prison sentence of 20 years and a potential fine of $250,000 if he is convicted.

As we mentioned, Josh is still behind bars, where millions hope that he will spend the rest of his miserable life.

However, he will have a detention hearing on May 5

The actual trial is currently scheduled for July 6.

Jim Bob and Michelle would have, fans are sure, liked to have covered up their son’s crimes.

That is, after all, what they did after they discovered that he was molesting little girls as a teen.

Instead of reporting him to authorities back then, they hid what happened.

This time, not even Jim Bob’s wealth or the solidarity of their extremist cult could cover for Josh.

They also could not keep news of this arrest a secret.

So, the Duggars did the only thing that they could — releasing an official statement.

Jim Bob and Michelle released a statement after Josh’s charges were made public.

“We appreciate your continued prayers for our family at this time,” Josh’s parents began.

Even they acknowledged: “The accusations brought against Joshua today are very serious.”

“It is our prayer that the truth, no matter what it is, will come to light,” Jim Bob and Michelle claimed.

“And,” they continued, “that this will all be resolved in a timely manner.”

Their statement concluded: “We love Josh and Anna and continue to pray for their family.”

Josh’s arrest and these heinous charges come just days after Anna Duggar’s pregnancy announcement.

She shared that she is preparing to bring yet another innocent little girl into the world.

Obviously, that announcement has since been overshadowed.

We would never wish growing up in a Duggar household on anyone.

But fans were already nauseated at the news of Josh getting another daughter.

Our society does so little to protect children. The Duggars are living proof of that.

Jill Duggar is one of the survivors of Josh’s previous sex crimes.

As a teenager, he molested multiple extremely young girls, including several of his own sisters.

Jill has, as an adult, been to therapy to process the many wrongs that happened during her childhood.

But time and therapy are not an antidote for trauma.

Childhood trauma in particular is often with people for life.

What makes things easier with time, for many, is simply that they are better able to cope with what happened.

Jill and her sisters are probably experiencing a lot of complicated, painful feelings at the moment.

However, Jill’s siblings are considerably closer to Jim Bob and his edicts.

But Jill and Derick aren’t quite part of the cult anymore … meaning that Jill could potentially make a statement.

After all, Derick has been speaking out plenty, at times directly calling out Jim Bob.

Derick may not be what we’d ever call a “good person,” but it has been nice to hear him accurately describe his father-in-law.

And that means that Jill is free to address her brother’s arrest without letting her parents do all of the talking.

However, being able to and being ready to make a statement are very different things.

So we keep that in mind as we show everyone the only thing that Jill has really had to say since Josh’s arrest.

Because her post … is about what pants she’s wearing.

Jill Duggar IG promotes some pants 01 of 02

Jill took to Instagram to show off a few pairs of shorts that stop above the knee.

It was a sponsored post, advertising clothes that violate the strict rules with which she was raised.

Having married Derick, she is no longer held to Jim Bob’s clothing standards and can dress like a normal human.

Obviously, some fans are clearly disappointed that Jill is talking about clotnes at a time like this.

But let’s remember that not all survivors are prepared to talk, even indirectly, about their trauma.

Asking Jill to speak out against her brother and risk incurring her family’s further wrath may be unfair at this point.

Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo to Jill and Derick: Come Back to the Cult, Bishes!

It will continue to take a long time for Jill Duggar to fully deprogram from her family’s cult.

She has made a lot of progress, but there is more to come.

Not if her sister Jinger and Jinger’s husband Jeremy have anything to say about it, however.

They are both vocally hopeful that Jill will come back into the fold soon.

Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo spoke to Us Weekly about recently touching base with Jill and Derick.

“They’re working through some things,” Jeremy characterized.

He added: “We’re giving them their time to do that

“But,” Jeremy emphasized, “we’ve got a great relationship [with them].”

“You always hope that families are united,” he expressed.

“And, you know, the family is strong,” Jeremy continued.

Jeremy acknowledged: “There’s going to be difficulties in every family.”

“I think that’s part of being in the public eye,” he opined.

“So many families go through different issues,” Jeremy pointed out.

Jeremy noted that this happens “especially as children are growing [up].”

“And this family happens to be in the public spotlight,” he said of the Duggar clan.

“And so, they work through it,” Jeremy said.

Jeremy stressed that he and Jinger are “definitely hoping” that the Duggar family resolve things.

He is hopeful that they can get all of their drama “sorted out” eventually.

“We love them very much,” Jeremy stressed about Jill and Derick.

“And,” Jeremy added, “I know they love the family.”

This is when Jinger chimed in, echoing her husband’s optimism and sentiments.

Also, Jinger regularly video chats with Jill, making sure that their respective children can interact.

Jeremy and Jinger have 2-year-old Felicity and 4-month-old Evangeline.

Jill and Derick have Israel, 5, and Samuel, 3 years old.

At those ages, the cousins might not be playmates, but they should still know each other.

At present, Jill’s kids are isolated from most of their cousins.

Jill is not allowed to go to Jim Bob’s home unless he is there and gives permission.

This of course means that family gatherings exclude the Dillard family.

Part of this comes from a simple family feud.

Derick has revealed how Jim Bob received pay directly from TLC.

Though he gives many of his adult children money in order to control them, they never received wages from their reality TV work.

This was not a simple misunderstanding.

Jim Bob presented their reality careers as a sort of public ministry.

The idea was to advertise their fundamentalist lifestyle and make it seem normal to viewers.

However, there is more to this than money.

Jill was abused — physically, emotionally, and also sexually — as a child in the Duggar home.

She is currently in therapy (a fundamentalist no-no) as she recovers from the effects of all of this.

There is also more to this than Jill’s heartbreaking childhood trauma.

Though Jill and Derick are devout and very conservative Christians, they’re no longer doing things “the Duggar way.”

Their children’s entertainment can include “worldly” television and movies. Their kids are also in real schools.

Declaring Jill persona non grata in the Duggar household may have been the best thing for her.

But clearly, many in Jill’s family just want their sister back, to spend time with her again.

It’s unclear what it would take for Jim Bob to allow Jill around her family now that she has openly questioned his way of doing things.
