The Duggar Home Tour: Who’s Living Large? (And Who’s Practically Homeless?)

Where do the Duggars live? For many fans of the famous and controversial TLC family, the Duggar homestead is a familiar sight.

Jim Bob and Michelle built a 7,000-square foot Arkansas pad with the proceeds from their first TLC specials way back in the day.

Thirteen years and three more kids later, the house serves as the setting for two reality shows – and some very large family gatherings.

Of course, 13 years is a long time.

Much of the younger Duggar generation has grown up and moved into homes of their own.

Some of the adult Duggars are just starting out – while some are already living the good life on some very enviable property.

Others … er, well, not so much.

Sit tight, we’ll get to that shortly.

The folks at celebrity gossip magazine In Touch took a look at all of the Duggar homes, and the findings were surprising.

So where do the Duggars live?

Well, we think it’s safe to say you’ll be surprised by some of these accomodations.

Buckle up. Let’s take a look:

1. The Compound

Dh 1
Every Counting On fan is familiar with the massive Tontitown property known as the Duggar compound. But these days, several of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids have left the nest to establish homes of their own.

2. The Beginning …

Dh 17
The Duggars’ story begins here, in this much more modest home in nearby Springdale, Arkansas. Not the kind of place in which you would want to raise 19 kids.

3. A Humble Start

The duggars in 2004
When the Duggars made their TV debut on Discovery Health, the network helped them with construction costs for their new home in Tontitown. Execs also filled up the family’s pantry, something Jim Bob and Michelle had difficulty doing in those days.

4. The Living Room

Dh 16
The Duggars love the great outdoors (especially their big backyard) but when they’re inside the compound, this sprawling living room — with its sky-high ceilings — serves as the site of more Counting On scenes than any other.

5. The Master Bedroom

Dh 15
And this — as they used to say on MTV’s Cribs — is where the magic happens. Jim Bob and Michelle’s bedroom has been the site of an awful lot of baby-making.

6. The Master Bath

Dh 14
And this is the bathroom off of Jim Bob and Michelle’s room. We’re guessing this was roughly the size of the living room in their first house.

Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard Haven’t Visited The Duggar Family Home In A ‘Couple Years’

Jill Duggar Dillard has been socially distancing herself from her big family long before the coronavirus pandemic. The 19 Kids and Counting alum confessed she hasn’t been to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar‘s place, which fans know as “the big house,” in a couple of years, because, well, Jill’s fam can be a bit much. Jill Duggar: Jim Bob’s House Triggers My PTSD

When the world first learned about the Josh Duggar sex scandals, many critics of the Duggar clain hoped that the news would bring an end to Jim Bob’s ultra-lucrative media empire.

But against all odds, the Duggar money train kept chugging along, and Jim Bob successfully swept the his son’s sex crimes under the carpet.

Thankfully, one of Josh and Jim Bob’s victims is now speaking out and calling attention to the trauma those two men have caused.

Jill Duggar is no longer on speaking terms with her parents, which means she’s finally free to express herself as she sees fit.

And this freedom has deepened the divide, as Jill is finally free to share her feelings about the man who molested her (Josh) and the man who protected her molester (Jim Bob).

Along with her husband, Derick Dillard, Jill has been posting YouTube videos in which she speaks candidly about her troubled relationship with her birth family.

This week, a fan asked if Jill and Derick have returned to the Duggar “big house” in the months since Dillard’s feud with Jim Bob got them banned.

We already knew that the Dillards skipped this year’s holiday festivities as a result of bad blood within the family.

But now, it looks as though the couple has been steering clear of Jill’s childhood home for even longer than we realize.

“It’s been at least a few years,” Derick said in response to a fan’s query.

Asked if they’re ever invited to Duggar events, Jill clarified that they avoid the house by choice.

“It depends,” she replied. “Yes, [we’re invited to] a lot of events. It depends, though.”

“There’s a lot of triggers there,” Derick chimed in.

Jill did not disagree with her husband’s observation that she finds the household triggering.

“There’s some restrictions [about us going there], but also we just feel that, in this season of life, we have to prioritize our mental and emotional health, and our threshold—as we like to call it—is just a little bit lower in this season of life for us, with a lot going on in our own lives…” she said.

“Plus COVID makes it a lot harder with just trying to keep our circle smaller,” Jill added.

“We’d like for it not to stay that way but that’s where we are right now.”

The Duggars don’t believe in Covid, but the Dillards do, and they’ve been taking the necessary precautions.

However, it sounds like Jill and Derick will be keeping their distance even after the whole crew is vaccinated (assuming Jim Bob allows his kids to be vaccinated).

From there, Jill and Derick continued to go against the Duggar belief system by stating that if they ever have a daughter, they will prepare her to enter the workforce and be independent.

“Yes, that’s important whether you have a son or a daughter,” Derick said. “I think we’ve raised [both of our sons] to be as independent as possible.

“We don’t want, like, 30-year-old kids living in our basement and not being productive,” he added.

“Even if you want to be a stay-at-home mom, that’s great. But if your spouse dies, and you’re left in the situation where you need to have more flexibility. It’s helpful having tools in your toolbelt to get done what you need to get done,” Derick said.

“Or if you want to be a working mom, or working wife with no kids…you don’t want to raise somebody to be reliant on anyone,” Jill said.

“It’s good to have a healthy level of independence.”

As The Ashley’s Reality Roundup points out, that comment could be interpreted as an insult to Jana Duggar, who’s currently 31, unemployed, and living at home with her parents.

But hey, if there’s any truth to the rumors about Jana being courted by Stephen Wissman, she could be the next Duggar daughter to be set free!

And we just can’t wait to hear what she’ll have to say about life under the Jim Bob regime!

Derick Dillard: I Had to Fill Out 423-Question Application Before Jim Bob Would Let Me Court Jill!

One of the most heavily-scrutinized aspects of life in the Duggar clan is the courtship process by which young people find suitable spouses.

Casual dating, premarital sex, and divorce are all forbidden in the Duggars’ world, so there’s a lot riding on every courtship.

Despite all that, the process moves fast — very fast.

Often, Duggars get engaged just a few weeks after they begin courting, and they’re married a few weeks after that.

So perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the family has its mate selection protocol down to a science.

Believe it or not, the process involves a written application that’s designed by Jim Bob to help weed out the losers and ensure that his grandkids are bred from only the best stock.

We sincerely wish we were joking/

As you might expect, the whole thing is intensely creepy.

Check out some of the more bizarre highlights from the list of 423 questions (!!!) that are presented to potential Duggar suitors.

It’s believed that both male and female courtship partners are forced to fill out the questionnaire, and of course, the responses are reviewed by the all-powerful shot-caller himself, James Robert Duggar.

Somehow, this family keeps getting weirder by the day.

1. Derick Spills the Tea

Jill duggar and derick dillard back in arkansas
As you’re probably aware, Derick Dillard has been feuding with Jim Bob Duggar for quite some time now. It’s a messy situation, but on the bright side, it’s yielded some interesting revelations about life in the Duggar clan.

2. Going Back to the Archives

Of course, as some fans recently realized, Derick has been taking shots at Jim Bob for quite some time now. Take, for example, the Counting On episode in which Dillard spoke out about the infamous Courtship Questionnaire.

3. Bonding Brothers-In-Law

Jinger duggar and jeremy vuolo in 2021
At the time that the episode was filmed, Jeremy Vuolo was still courting Jinger Duggar, and Derick shocked him with an unexpected question.

4. Truth or Der

Derick asked Jeremy if he had been “drill[ed]” on his “financial situation” by Jim Bob, adding that such questions can be found “on the 45-page application,” he said. “Page 27, section B, line four.”

5. Jim Bob In the Middle

It might sound like Der and Jer were just having a laugh at Jim Bob’s expense, but it turns out the application is not only real — it’s also much longer than they described.

6. Does the Fun Ever Start!

Around that time, there was a disagreement about the length of the application. Jessa Duggar claimed it’s only 30 pages, while Jeremy said that he “got sent a 50-page questionnaire.” It turns out, the current model clocks in at 423 questions — and we have all the highlights below!

Derick Dillard Claps Back at Joy-Anna Duggar: You’ve Been Brainwashed By Jim Bob!

Well, it looks like the ongoing feud between Jill Duggar and her parents has now developed into an all-out war!

The situation escalated earlier this week, when Joy-Anna Duggar seemed to throw major shade at Jill by “liking” a comment in which Jill and husband Derick Dillard were attacked by a random Instagram user.

The remark was posted on the Duggar and Bates Confessions Instagram page, and apparently it met with Joy’s approval:

Jill and Joy

“I realize Jill Duggar needs to distance herself from her family for mental health reasons, but I don’t understand why they need to make their issues with the family public,” the Instagram user wrote.

“Speaking out against them publicly will burn more bridges between them,” the comment continued.

“They say they want to repair their relationship one day, but their actions don’t reflect that.”

Shockingly, the commenter went on to accuse Jill of making money from the feud with her family, even though there’s no reason to believe she’s made a dime from it.

“If I have an issue with my family, I deal with it privately,” this person wrote.

“And I certainly don’t bank on it by going to media outlets and YouTube to air out the dirty laundry.”

To make matters worse, this person concluded by alleging that Jill has abandoned the ideals of her faith, which is the ultimate low blow for any Duggar.

“It’s not very Christian if you ask me. I get the sense that Jill and Derick need money, and this is an easy route to get that money,” the commenter wrote.

Fans were absolutely floored by Joy’s endorsement of the comment, and many interpreted it as a clear message about where she stands in regard to Jill’s rebellion against Jim Bob.

Jill chose not to her involve herself in the drama, but fortunately, Derick jumped in on her behalf.

“Jim Bob [Duggar] is that you?” one commenter asked, according to In Touch,

“I don’t think ANY of us can judge how Jill is handling her family drama when it’s clear she had a traumatic childhood.”

“She was mentally and emotionally abused her whole life and brainwashed using God. That’s my thoughts … good for Jill. Air that s–t out, girl … you deserve to be heard!” a second person remarked.

“The parents made millions by putting Jill’s life and the other kids‘ lives out for everyone to see … Jill had a right to talk about all the things she went through as a child and even as an adult,” a third chimed in.

“People who’ve been abused and faced trauma should never be silenced. Sometimes you have to burn bridges to protect yourself from abusers,” a fourth person wrote.

Needless to say, the people were very much on Jill’s side — and so was her husband.

Derick “liked” all four of those comments.

In doing so, he let Joy know exactly how he feels without saying a word.

The Dillards seem to have become masters of such ingeniously shady moves in recent months.

Earlier this week, Jill revealed that she’s teaching her kids about sex so that they don’t fall victim to molesters.

Many who read her latest interview with Us Weekly interpreted her remarks as a subtle way of addrsessing the Josh Duggar sex scandals and the fact that her parents helped to hide the abuse she endure in her youth.

“We definitely want our kids also to have the ability to protect themselves,” Jill said.

“In our bathroom, we have a little sign, “My Body Rules.” If there’s a babysitter here in our home, they’re gonna see that too,” she said.

Clearly, Jill is still affected by the trauma that she suffered in her youth, and she probably will be for the rest of her life.

It’s enough to make you wish those commenters had been a bit more harsh toward the person who had the audacity to tell Jill how she should feel about her parents and her childhood.

Joy-Anna Duggar Throws MAJOR SHADE at Jill: She’s Burned a Lot of Bridges!

For almost a year now, Jill Duggar has been feuding with her family and keeping her distance from her overbearing parents.

Jill never seemed like a likely candidate for rebellion, as she spent her teens and early twenties doing exactly as her parents said.

These days, however, she’s proof that liberation from a cult that seeks to control your body and mind is possible.

But it’s certainly not easy …

One would think that Jill would be greeted as a liberator by her sisters who might see her as living proof that they too can live normal lives one day.

Instead, several of her siblings have thrown subtle shade at Jill recent weeks.

The first offense occurred back in January when Joy-Anna Duggar “liked” a comment in which an Instagram user alleged that it was Jill’s fault that she missed out on her family’s holiday festivities.

Jill Duggar, Joy-Anna Duggar Split

Now, Joy is at it again.

Yes, despite the controversy she created the first time, Joy has liked another comment in which some random hater bashes Jill.

And this one is even more critical of her sister than the previous snarky remark!

The commenter went on to accuse Jill of cashing in on the bad blood within her family, even though there’s no reason to believe she’s made a dime from it.

“If I have an issue with my family, I deal with it privately,” this person wrote.

“And I certainly don’t bank on it by going to media outlets and YouTube to air out the dirty laundry.”

They concluded by alleging that Jill has abandoned the ideals of her faith, which is the ultimate low blow for any Duggar.

“It’s not very Christian if you ask me. I get the sense that Jill and Derick need money, and this is an easy route to get that money,” the commenter wrote.

Yes, believe it or not, Joy liked that comment.

In doing so, she sent a clear message about where she stands in regard to Jill’s rebellion against Jim Bob.

And she’s certainly not alone in that stance.

In the months since she first cut ties with her parents, Jill has shocked her family by engaging in behaviors that are perfectly normal to most Americans, but are strictly forbidden in the Duggars’ world.

Jill has drank alcohol and admitted to using birth control.

She’s posted photos of herself wearing a swimsuit, and she’s spent time with her cousin Amy, who’s been persona non grata to the rest of the family for several years.

We know that Jim Bob, Michelle, and Joy-Anna disapprove, and it seems that Jana Duggar belongs to that club as well.

Jana has stated that the entire family prays for Jill’s salvation, which seems to indicate that they believe she’s living in a state of mortal sin.

And we’re sure they also believe that they only way she can be redeemed is to come crawling back and beg for Jim Bob’s forgiveness.

Fortunately, it doesn’t look like that will be happening anytime soon.

Have Any of the Duggars Left the Church?

It’s impossible to enter into a discussion about the Duggar family without mentioning the very particular set of religious beliefs and customs that dominate most of their waking hours.

The family’s ultra-conservative views have been a top focal point for both fans and critics, with the former praising the Duggars for their piety, and the latter condemning them for their archaic views.

The Duggars have their religion to thank for their continued fame, but it’s also been the source of some of their most damaging scandals.

Almost two-thirds of Americans identify as Christians, but very few of them would feel at home in one of the Duggars’ church services.

Even fellow believers in the Duggars’ minuscule sect would likely balk at the prospect of raising their children as strictly as Jim Bob and Michelle have.

Their probable reasons for granting their own kids a longer leash would be fully supported by the Duggars’ current set of circumstances.

It stands to reason that if you use your faith to justify controlling every aspect of your children’s lives, they’re far more likely to rebel at the first opportunity.

And that’s exactly how the Duggars wound up in their current crisis — one that’s created an endless string of tabloid-friendly controversies and some deep divisions between parents and kids.

But before we attempt to determine whether any of the Duggar children have gone so far as to leave the church, we have to answer a more fundamental question.

Namely — what religion are the Duggars?

The answer is not as simple as you might think.

The Duggars are Independent Baptists — a fairly sizable sect that comprises roughly 2.5 percent of the US population, according to a study by the Pew Research Center.

Independent Baptists have a long history of far-right conservatism, having been founded by a small contingent who felt that more mainstream Baptist sects were becoming too liberal.

The Duggars, however, didn’t feel that the IB branch is conservative or insular enough on its own.

And so, they joined the Quiverfull movement.

The brainchild of Institute for Basic Life Principles founder Bill Gothard, the Quiverfull movement lost most of its members when Gothard was forced to step down amid a string of sex scandals.

But Jim Bob and Michelle have remained faithful members — and so, it seems, have most of their kids.

The IBLP and the Quiverfull movement teach that it’s the duty of every Christian woman to give birth to as many children as possible.

That’s why there’s pretty much always a pregnant Duggar.

Just this week, we learned that Jessa Duggar is expecting her fourth child.

At just 28 years old, Jessa seems to be planning on raising a double-digit-sized brood.

So it’s safe to assume that she’s still a believer in both the IBLP and the teachings of the disgraced Bill Gothard.

Her older sister, however, seems to have chosen a very different path.

Jill Duggar is no longer on speaking terms with her parents, and she seems to have little interest in following their belief system.

In recent months we learned that Jill drinks alcohol and uses birth control, both of which are major no-nos in the Duggars’ world.

She almost certainly practices some sort of evanglical faith, but odds are, she’s abandoned the Quiverfull movement and no longer attends services at an Independent Baptist church.

The other most likely candidate for defection is Jinger Duggar.

Jinger lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, who is currently studying at a local divinity school.

The Vuolos are Baptists, but they’ve abandoned many of the rules that define the Quiverfull lifestyle, including the one that requires women to wear long skirts at all times.

So Jinger has forged her own path (with the permission of her husband), but it currently looks as though she and Jill are currently the family’s only rebels.

We can only hope that some of their siblings will see the light as they gain more experience of the world.

Jill Duggar, Derick Dillard Explain Baby-Making to Their Kids: We Rail Each Other So Hard!

As we’ve discussed many times in the past, the Duggars are obsessed with sex.

In their youth, when they’re single, abstinence and the fear of temptation dominate their every waking hour.

But once they get married, they want the whole world to know they’re smashing their naughty bits into their partner’s on a nightly basis.

Watching a couple of married Duggars spend time together is like watching high school kids on a first date.

The conversation is almost as awkward as the groping and fumbling, but they seem to have no idea how cringe the whole spectacle is.

And sadly, it seems that Duggars who have been disowned by their parents are no less awkward than the ones who are still allowed at family gatherings.

As you’re probably aware, Jill Duggar has cut ties with her folks, and she seems happier than ever as a result.

But even though the newly-liberated Jill drinks alcohol and hangs out with other black sheep who have earned a place on Jim Bob’s sh-t list, she’s still a Duggar.

And that means she talks about sex constantly, but not very knowledgeably, kinda like that kid from Kindergarten Cop who kept saying, “Boys have a penis; girls have a vagina.”

Anyway, now that she and Derick no longer appear on Counting On, Jill is paying the bills with lots of sponsored content.

This week, she’s shilling an app called “Intimately Us,” which Jill describes as “definitely designed for married couples” — in other words, it’s for people who are allowed to bone without condemning themselves to the eternal torments of hell.

The Ashley, of The Ashley’s Reality Roundup fame, has summarized Jill and Derick’s 37-minute (!!!) YouTube infomercial and, boy, is it a doozy.

And unfortunately, the highlights include an awkward convo involving the couple’s kids.:

Thigs started out innocently enough, when Jill announced that she and Derick are heading out on a “progressive date.”

That might sound like they’ll be joined by AOC and Flo, but to hear Jill describe it, a progressive date is one in which you stop “four or five different places.”

Well, we guess if you’re not worried about DUIs or carbon footprints, you can go ahead and spend your whole damn date night driving around.

Anyway, Jill and Der decided to bring their kids along, and because the date was sponsored by a sex app (for married people only!!!), it wasn’t long before the conversation shifted to how babies are made.

Jill explained that both of the boys began “growing inside mommy’s tummy” after one of mom and dad’s date nights.

She stressed that the blessed event occurred after “a bunch of dates,” but then Der had to go and mess up the wholesome vibe by telling his kids about the time he and Jill had four “dates” in one day.

Jill got embarrassed and instructed Derick to “just chill a little bit,” but there’s pretty much no way the kids are forgetting that moment.

Especially since the sex talk didn’t end there.

Jill informed viewers that she and Derick “have a great sex life,” which led him to defend his previous statement by shouting, “At least I used the word ‘date’ instead of the S-word.”

But seriously, Der, chill out.

Then the Dillards listened to sexpert chat on their Intimately app while the kids sat in the backseat and fantasized about their future therapy appointments.

This has been your daily episode of The Duggars: WTF Is Wrong With Them?!

Jill Duggar Defies Jim Bob: I’m Reading Secular Books to My Kids!

Unlike much of the Duggar brood, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard don’t abide by Jim Bob’s tyrannical rules.

One example of many is Jill exposing her children to media that isn’t Duggar approved or even nominally Christian in origins.

Jill Duggar has uploaded a cute and cozy photo.

She is seated upon a black leather couch with her sons, Samuel and Israel, seated beside her.

Jill has a book open and is reading to her precious boys.

“Love reading with my boys!” Jill gushes in the captions of this sweet family photo.

Prompting engagement, she then asks her fans and followers: “What are some of your kid’s favorite books?”

She revealed that what she was reading at the moment was The Little Engine That Could.

In any normal family, this kind of mother-children activity would be extremely normal.

Among the extended Duggar family, however, it is exceptional.

Why? Well, basically, because the titular character of The Little Engine That Could manages to succeed by believing in himself — anathema in the Duggar family’s cult.

Snark aside, fans have asked themselves for years why there doesn’t seem to be a single bookworm in the entire Duggar family.

It’s normal for at least some children from any sample of human beings to be avid readers.

Conventionally, families that subject their children to homeschooling have an above-average amount of bookworms, due to a number of factors. Why not the Duggars?

Well, basically, the Duggars want to isolate their children from the real world until the children are so dependent upon the family’s way of doing things (and also married) and can’t imagine living their life another way.

That means no secular reading. The Duggar kids can read the bible or they can read devotional Christian writing.

They are not known to read much at all in the way of even conservative Christian fiction, possibly because even that might be too mainstream for Jim Bob and Michelle.

But there’s more to it than the desire to prevent their children from having any original thoughts or exposure to other ways of living.

The Duggars also want to center their children, not only in Christianity, but in their cult’s very specific version of it.

As such, many activities put the cult’s values at their core. The Little Engine That Could may teach good values, but not by Duggar standards.

But this is nothing new for Jill, and ultimately small potatoes compared to her and Derick’s decision to (gasp) enroll their children in real schools.

Public schooling is not part of the Duggar lifestyle, because it exposes children to other people and ideas — dangerous for any cult that plans to be multigenerational.

Jill and her siblings may have been denied many basic human rights, including access to actual educations, but her children will not be.

Ultimately, this is bittersweet for Jill, who gets to give her kids a better childhood than she had but in the process distances herself from her siblings and their families.

Jill is already banned from the Duggar house. Who wants to bed that Samuel and Israel won’t be allowed to hang out with their cousins unsupervised as they get older, for fear that they’ll “contaminate” them with independent thoughts?

This separation from much of her family is painful for Jill, but she’s doing it all for her boys.
