It was totally on Tuesday evening with the return of Teen Mom 2, as this beloved MTV franchise kicked off a new season by highlighting a simmering feud between two cast members.
Except: Neither was one of the women.
Indeed…
Even weeks after giving birth and revealing her baby’s surprising name, Kailyn Lowry is getting grief.
Here is how she responded to one troll who accused her of being paid by MTV to have more kids.
Kailyn Lowry is a public figure. As such, she engaged with her followers — even the rude ones.
The Teen Mom 2 star answered questions on Instagram, including this accusation.
“You’re only having so many kids because MTV pays [you],” the troll blasted.
Even though she could have completely ignored the question, Kail elected to publicly answer it.
“So here’s the thing about me …” her reply begins.
Kailyn affirms that “I will do whatever it takes to provide for my kids.”
“Yes, MTV pays me for TM2,” Kailyn acknowledges.
“But MTV did not get my bachelor’s degree for me,” she notes.
In a similar vein, Kail notes that MTV did not “write [four] books for me, start [Pothead Hair Care] for me.”
“MTV does not record [the “Coffee Convos” podcast] for me every week,” Kailyn adds.
When it comes to her career, she explains, she saw her openings and used them to diversify and succeed.
“I took an opportunity presented to me,” she explains.
“And,” Kailyn writes, “I launched myself in several different directions.”
She has a particular goal in mind: financial security in the long-term.
She concludes: “And when the show ends, I WILL STILL be able to provide.”
To summarize in the simplest possible terms:
If the troll is saying that Kailyn only has four kids because her reality TV salary is enough to support all four, they’re only half-right.
If the troll is claiming that MTV offers her some sort of secret bonus for popping out an extra kid … that’s not how this works at all.
People like to give Kailyn a hard time, particularly over her kids.
Some give her grief for having four kids by three different baby daddies.
Others give her a hard time because her one repeat baby daddy is Chris Lopez.
Is Chris terrible? Yes. But it seems like Kail’s haters will resent her no matter what she does.
She has been open about her desire for a “big family” in the past, even admitting that she would enjoy having SIX children.
Kail would also like it if some of the members of her massive intended brood were girls. She is already the mother of four boys, you see.
Fans can be downright weird and intrusive, as one recently asked Kailyn if she’d had her sons circumcised.
Yes, that’s a fair topic to address, involving questions of fundamental human rights, genital mutilation, and the role that social pressures play in parenting.
But … Kail’s kids are real human people. To be blunt, their future classmates should not be able to google what their penises look like before going on a date with them, right?
Kailyn loves her boys, but does want to one day have at least one daughter.
She hasn’t committed to the idea … but she is refusing to share names that she came up with for a potential daughter.
Her reasoning? That she might want to use them herself.
Well, another season of Teen Mom 2 is almost upon us.
It’s a nearly impossible task for any reality show to really keep things fresh after a decade of filming, but the MTV staple has a trick up its sleeve. A secret weapon. An ace in the hole, if you will:

The many infamous Teen Mom stars and their families are coming back to MTV, COVID-19 pandemic or not.
But since we are in the midst of this health crisis, MTV has had to get creative … and some of their producers aren’t willing to make the sacrif…
Last week, Kailyn Lowry deleted her Twitter as fans called for her to be fired for appalling racism after an older Teen Mom 2 clip resurfaced.
Now, MTV is forcing all of its stars to undergo social media “background checks” … or risk being fired.
A troubling video has resurfaced in which Kailyn Lowry uses a racist dogwhistle when describing her own son, Isaac.
“When he goes over there, you have him dress a certain way; you have him look a certain way; you have his hair cut a certain way,” Kail told Jo.
“And,” she says while confronting her baby daddy, “that’s not who he is.”
“I think you forget about the fact that he’s half-white and he’s half-Hispanic,” Kailyn reminded him.
“I feel like you dress him in a stereotypical way,” Kailyn accused Jo, “and I don’t like it.”
“I don’t understand what your description of how I dress him is,” Jo protested.
“You dress him like a thug!” Kail exclaimed.
Infamously, thug has become almost exclusively used against men of color, often said with a venomous tone. Fans are horrified.
“Bahahahahahaha ok, I’m not racist,” Kailyn declared on Twitter at the time.
Saying that you’re not racist is one thing, but laughing off a serious accusation is … not great.
Kail added at the time: “Gotta make good TV somehow!”
Is that good television? Is the secret ingredient racism?
At the time, Toni Ziegler told The Ashley that despite her social media claims, Kailyn wished that she had spoken differently.
“Kail does regret saying that,” she affirmed.
Toni explained that Kailyn regretted saying it “because she wants Isaac to embrace both of his cultures.”
“But,” she stressed, “it didn’t go down quite how it’s being shown.”
“She was wrong to say it, for sure,” Toni agreed.
“But,” she explained, “she was upset that Jo tries to change Isaac’s life and look so much whenever he goes over there.”
“Plus, a lot of the time Jo just does it because he knows it makes Kail mad,” Toni accused.
She characterized: “He likes to push her buttons.”
Right now, millions of Americans are courageously march in protest of racism and escalating police violence from coast to coast.
It is a time of reckoning for many racist individuals and institutions, from lethal police policies to widely criticized shows like Cops.
So it is no surprise that, this time, Kail’s clip is getting more attention on social media than it has in the past.
People are more aware and motivated now than ever before of how horrific the impact of racism can be.
So why are people calling for Kailyn, in particular, to be fired?
It’s not just that she used an infamous racist dogwhistle … it’s that she used it to refer to her own son.
Kailyn, they note, has multiple biracial children, and should be the absolute last person to use harmful language like that.
Sadly, having friends, partners, and children of color does not prevent a person from being racist.
The Ashley reports that, on Thursday and Friday of last week, the Teen Mom cast members received some news.
They were informed that they must now undergo background checks and complete reviews of their social media accounts.
A third party media company will conduct this review of all accounts, past and present, spanning the past 10 years.
This applies to the titular moms, but also to other cast members such as the dads.
“The cast members were informed that they have to fill out a complete background check,” a production source reveals.
“They were told if they don’t complete the background check, or refuse,” the insider shares, “they may not be allowed to appear on the [next] season of the show.”
“Some cast members were freaking out,” the source characterizes.
“And,” the insider continues, they were “saying it’s unfair to subject them to such intense scrutiny, after being with the show for 10 years.”
“The [producers] were being pretty cryptic, too,” the source describes.
“And,” the insider added, producers “would not tell the cast what the company is looking for.”
Apparently they were not sharing that “or what happens if something that’s ‘problematic’ is found during the search.”
Of course, it is unknown if producers are receiving the same treatment. They may simply not know.
“It’s ridiculous,” a production source complained.
“[Viacom] already has Season 10 [of ‘Teen Mom 2’] in the can,” the insider notes.
“So,” the source griped, “to try to do this now is dumb.”
Is it dumb to do due diligence for people who are paid massive sums of money to appear on people’s TV screens?
“They are just trying to get ahead of any possible ‘problems’ fans will dig up on social media and they’ll have to deal with,” the source notes.
“They have not been told what happens exactly if something ‘bad’ is found,” the insider shares.
“So,” the source explains, “everyone is going through their stuff with a fine-tooth comb right now.”
Well, that is good advice for anyone, right?
Sometimes, people can feel that the search for “bad takes” goes too far. Sometimes, that can be true.
After all, we can all learn and grow as people. There are things that someone could tweet in 2012 that they would never repeat in 2020.
But some things transcend that. Some things aren’t bad jokes or ignorant takes, but appalling and racist no matter when they were said.
It is not unreasonable for a company to hold public figures to a higher standard — especially when that company wants to avoid boycotts.
If you’re a fan of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2, then you know that many of the people on the MTV reality shows have tattoos.
You also know that a lot of the tattoos …
… well, they aren’t that great.
Some are poorly done, some are kind of strange, and some are nightmarish and horrifying and just so completely, unbelievably bad.
So steady yourself, perhaps grab some smelling salts and some pearls to clutch, and let’s rank all the Teen Mom ink we can get our eyes on!
Even Kailyn Lowry’s harshest critics should keep one thing in mind: at least she’s better that Jenelle Evans.
But she is still getting bombarded with questions about her fourth pregnancy, And folks, Kail has had enough.
Taking to TikTok as she has before, Kailyn Lowry is using social media to express her deep frustrations with fan questions.
“Why 4 kids?” one quoted fan question asks.
Another question pops up, reading: “Do you know what birth control is?”
The first could be read as innocuous but blunt. The second is a confrontational question.
“Are you gonna try for a girl?” another question reads.
Notably, Kail has sort of addressed this, saying that she would do gender selection for baby #5.
Another asks: “Do you want [any more]?”
That seems to be up in the air, given Kail’s current life situation and relationship status.
“Aren’t you tired?” another fan asks.
We can only assume that the answer to this question is yes.
“Will you have another baby dad?” reads another commonly asked fan question.
So many questions, and so little tact.
“I don’t know,” Kail repeatedly mouths as the music plays in the TikTok video.
The music is incorrectly listed on TikTok as “original sound.”
The song is actually “Steppin'” by Supa Dupa Humble Feat. Mills Supreme.
If you don’t recognize music yourself, you can always check to make sure that you’re giving credit where credit is due.
Then comes Kailyn’s reply to the constant life-choices-shaming and mom-shaming that she receives.
“I don’t ask y’all to babysit,” Kail points out.
“So,” she demands, “mind your business.”
It’s true that Kailyn is a public figure, but there are lines that should not be crossed, right?
First of all, whether Kailyn does or does not opt to build a tiny human being in her uterus and then yeet it out is entirely up to her.
Her body, her choice extends to having kids just as much as it extends to not having kids.
While some fan questions are to be expected, people need to keep in mind that it’s not up to them.
It’s not up to fans, it’s not up to her existing baby daddies. It’s Kail’s call.
That doesn’t mean that fans can’t ask questions, of course.
Some of the more well-meaing queries have seemed to revolve around Kail’s choice in baby daddy.
Chris Lopez is, to put it bluntly, not a good dude.
Fans hate to see Kail further cement her ties to this man, and they feel that her future child deserves a better father.
But even the most well-meaning questions and suggestions in the world aren’t likely to do much.
Kail has made it extremely clear that she is not going to change her entire life to please fans.
That means that harassing her will not accomplish anything other than add to her stress.
Do we need to be piling onto a pregnant woman’s mentions with harsh words? Probably not.
If you have a bone to pick with Kailyn, you could talk with other fans about her alarming anti-vaxx stance.
While her first two children were lucky enough to get proper medical care, Lux has not been so lucky.
We can only hope that she will come around and follow the advice of doctors.
Lux and Baby #4 shouldn’t have to wait until they’re teens and can sneak off to a clinic for vaccinations, as some teens have done.

Kailyn Lowry has been asking fans to “let it go” when it comes to her latest terrible baby daddy.
Now, Chris Lopez is promising fans that he’s trying to change.
On Sunday, April 4, Chris Lopez took to Instagram to address that he is undergoing some much-needec changes.
“I’m in an uncomfortable stage of my life,” he confessed.
Chris shared that he feels that he is in a place “where my old self is gone.”
Considering what we’ve all seen of his “old self,” that is some very good news already!
(In case you need a reminder, here is a photo of him gleefully burning Kailyn’s book just a couple of years ago. A real class act)
“But,” Chris continued, “my new self isn’t fully born yet.”
He added: “I’m in the midst of [a] transformation.”
That brief statement showed more growth and maturity than we’ve seen from him in the past.
Back in October, Chris dropped some hints that he knew that he had been in the wrong.
“Do you regret not being more involved with Lux in the beginning?” asked a fan during an Instagram Q&A.
“In a way, yes,” Chris confessed at the time.
“Here’s an honest moment for y’all,” he promised.
“I wouldn’t say regret,” Chris then clarified.
“But,” he admitted, “I wish I was there more for his mother while she was pregnant with him.”
“That’s definitely some #realtalk right there,” Chris stated.
“She really carried my son for nine months,” he acknowledged, “and I was f–kin’ up.”
That was not his only or last f–k up when it came to Kailyn.
Reports have said that Chris behaved in a physically abusive manner towards Kailyn, even after Lux was born.
Additionally, around the time that Baby #2 was conceived, Chris had some sort of altercation that required the police to be contacted.
He may be exhibiting growth, but it’s unclear that having a larger role in the lives of his children will do any good for anyone.
Chris has teased that he will address any and all rumors about himself in an upcoming documentary.
“Man, y’all getting the other side, y’all getting the part that y’all want,” Chris boasted.
He was speaking to fans through an Instagram clip, one that he has since deleted.
“I got tired of hearing about me not being on TV,” he explained.
Chris continued: “I got tired about being on social media and all this other stuff.”
“So now I’m letting y’all in on my world a little bit,” he explained.
“I’ll speak on, you know, my failures, you know, my disappointments, trials, tribulations,” Chris listed.
He summarized by saying that he will discuss “things that’s been said about me.”
Perhaps Chris has truly turned things around — or, at least, will turn things around — and become a better human being.
That would be great, if still fall short of undoing all that he has said and done over the years.
We will have to wait and see how Chris demonstrates these alleged changes.
After all, actions speak louder than words.
